Pakistan inserting the opposition in this game provides the 49th occasion of it doing so in its tests played to date. It is the eleventh such instance against Sri Lanka.

Three Pakistan cricketers made their debut in this test providing the 14th instance of three or more cricketers making their test debut in a test match. This is the first such occasion against Sri Lanka.

AD Matthews became the 112th cricketer to represent Sri Lanka in test. He is the 21st cricketer to make his debut against Pakistan. His knock of 42 represents the second highest individual innings registered on debut against Pakistan. The highest individual innings is credited to DA Gunawardene who had scored 43 in the first innings at Lahore in March 99.

Mohammad Yousuf becomes the first cricketer to play test cricket by severing the Indian Cricket League connection.

KC Sangakkara becomes the eleventh captain to lead Sri Lanka in tests, while TM Dilshan becomes the 15th wicket keeper to don the gloves for Sri Lanka in tests.

Mohammad Yousuf’s 112 in this game represent the 307th hundred by a Pakistan batsman in a test innings against various oppositions. It also represents the 139th hundred by a Pakistan batsman against various oppositions on away soil.

Mohammad Yousuf registered his 24th test hundred when he made 112 in this game. Inzamam-ul-Huq with 25 hundreds holds the record for most test hundreds by Pakistan batsman. Mohammad Youuf left behind Javed Miandad who had 23 test hundreds to his credit when he carved his 24th hundred in this game. Inzamam-ul-Huq, Mohmmad Yousuf and Javed Miandad are the only three Pakistan batsmen who have scored 20 plus test hundreds.

Mohammad Yousuf’s 112 in this test is his best against Sri Lanka. It was an improvement over his 88 at Peshawar in Mar 2000. It was his third fifty against Sri Lanka in a test innings. Apart from his 112 and 88, he has scored 83 at Lahore in Mar 1999

Kamran Akmal had a field day behind the stumps as he took three catches in Sri Lanka’s second innings taking his match tally to eight. He had effected five dismissals {four caught and one stumped} in Sri Lanka’s first innings.

Kamran Akmal’s eight dismissals {07 caught and oen stumped} in this matche provide the 54th occasion of a wicket keeper effecting eight or more dismissals in a test match. His feat of eight catches in this match represents the second instance of his achieving the feat. The other occasion was against West Indies at Kingston in Jun 2005, when he took nine catches.

Kamran Akmal emulated Rashid Latif who also has effected eight or more dismissals on two occasions. Rashid Latif’s feat read thus – 9 dismissals {all caught} against New Zealand at Auckland in Feb 94 and 8 dismissals {06 caught and 02 stumped} against Australia at Sydney in Nov 95.

Apart from Kamran Akmal and Rashid Latif who had eight or more dismissals on two occasions, Wasim Bari is the other Pakistan wicket keeper to achieve such a feat. Wasim Bari effected eight dismissals {all caught} against England at Leeds in Jul 1971. Thus Kamran Akmal’s effort in this game provide the fifth occasion of Pakistan wicket keeper effecting eight or more dismissals in a test match.

Kamran Akmal becomes the 12th wicket keeper in the world to effect eighr or more dismissals on two or more occasions. During the course of this match in which he effected eight dismissals, Kamran Akmal reached the mile stone of effecting 150 plus dismissals in tests and at the end of the test match he had an aggregate of 156 dismissals {136 caught and 20 dismissals}. He is the 20th wicket keeper in the annals of test cricket to effect 150 plus dismissals and the second Pakistan wicket keeper to achieve the feat. Wasim Bari is the other Pakistan wicket keeper who has achieved the feat with 228 dismissals {201 caught and 07 stumped} to his credit.

DPMD Jayawardene’s zero in the second innings of this test provides his eleventh zero of his test career. Other Sri Lankan batsman who have scored more zeroes than Jayawardene are – M Muralitharan {32}, MS Atapattu {22}, GP Wickramasinghe {17}, ST Jayasuiya {15}, AR Ranatunga {12} and WPUJC Vaas {12}.

Mohammad Aamer and Saeed Ajmal captured six and five wickets respectively in this test which was their debut test.

Mohammad Aamer’s match figures of 30.0-5-112-6 represent the best match figures by a Pakistan debutant against Sri Lanka. Other bowlers to have five or more wickets in match on test debut against Sri Lanka are – Saeed Ajmal {5 for 113 at Galle in Jul 2009 – this test} and Tahir Naqqash {5 for 117 at Karachi in Mar 1982.

Kamran Akmal is the seventh wicket keeper to effect eight dismissals in a test against Sri Lanka. Others are WK Lees of New Zealand {all caught} at Wellington in Mar 1983, IDS Smith of New Zealand {all caught| at Hamilton in Feb 1991, DJ Richardson of South Africa {all caught} at Col-SSC in Sep 1993, IA Healey of Australia {all caught} at Adelaide in Jan 1996, MV Boucher of South Africa {all caught} at Centurion in Nov 2002 and AC Gilchrist of Australia {all caught} at Darwin in Jul 2004. All the six wicket keepers who have effected eight dismissals against Sri Lanka have all catches, while Kamran Akmal is the only wicket keeper to include one stumping in his eight dismissals

DJ Richardson of South Africa and Kamran Akmal of Pakistan are the only two wicket keepers to effect eight dismissals against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. DJ Richardson’s feat came at Col-RPS, while Kamran Akmal performed the feat at Galle.

Pakistan which had smelt victory at the end of third day lost the test by 50 runs leaving the home team victorious at the stroke of the Lunch on the fourth day.

Paksitan’s lead of 50 runs in the first innings was the victory margin for Sri Lanka as they won the test by 50 runs !

Mohammad Yousuf’s first innings hundred – 112 was in a losing cause providing the 39th occasion of a Pakistan batsman’s test hundred going in vain.

This loss provides the eighth occasion of Pakistan losing a test when Mohammad Younus registered a hundred. West Indies {has lost 13 tests when BC Lara scored 14 hundreds} and India {has lost nine tests when SR Tendulkar has scored nine hundreds} are the other two countries which have lost more than eight or more tests when one of their batsman registered eight or more hundreds.

This loss provides the 90th loss for Pakistan in tests and eighth loss against Sri Lanka. Paksitan has lost a test for the second time against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka when it lost the test at Galle by 50 runs. The other occasion of Pakistan losing a test against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka was at Col-SSC in Mar 1986, when it went down by eight wickets.

Pakistan’s 117 in second innings represent its lowest completed innings total against Sri Lanka. The previous lowest completed innings total was its 132 in the first innings at Col-SSC in Mar 1986.

Pakistan’s 117 all out in this test represent the 25th occasion of Pakistan being all out for a total less than 120 in a test innings. It also represent the fourth occasion of Pakistan being all out for a total less than 120 runs in the fourth innings of a test match.

Misba-ul-Huq’s run out in the second innings of this test provide the 198th instance of a Pakistan batsman dismissed run out in a test innings. He was run out for the second occasion in his test career. The first occasion was in the first innings at Delhi against India in Nov 2007.

Misbah-ul-Huq’s run out in the second innings of this test provide the 27th occasion of a Pakistan batsman dismissed run out in a test innings against Sri Lanka.

Kamran Akmals’ feat of eight dismissals in this test was in a losing cause providing the ninth occasion of wicket keeper’s feat of eight or more dismissal going in vain. Kamran Akmal and Wasim Bari are the two Pakistan wicket keepers to witness their feat of eight dismissals in test going in vain. Wasim Bari’s eight dismissals against England at Leeds in Jul 1971 had not ensured a Pakistan win. This test witnessed three Pakistan batsmen dismissed run out – Mohammad Yousuf, Kamran Akmal in the first innings and Misbah-ul-Hug in the second innings providing the third occasion of three Pakistan batsmen run out in a test against Sri Lanka. The other tests in which three Pakistan batsmen were run out against Sri Lanka are – Lahore test in Mar 1999 {Wajahatullah Wasti in the first innings, Saeed Anwar and Moin Khan in the second innings} and Faisalabad test in Oct 2004 {Shoaib Malik in the first, Danish Kaneria and Mohammad Sami in the second}.

DPMD Jayawardene with two catches in this test now has an aggregate of 24 catches which is a record for a Sri Lankan fieldsman against Pakistan and also a series record for most catches in Sri Lanka-Pakistan test series.

Pakistan lost the test after it had inserted the opposition providing the 14th occasion of Pakistan losing the test after it had won the toss and opted to field first. These 14 occasions include the forfeited test against England at The Oval in Aug 2006.

HMRKB Herath’s four for 15 in the second innings of this test provides the 19th occasion of a Sri Lankan bowler capturing four or more wickets in its win against Pakistan. This is Herath’s second four wicket haul in Sri Lanka’s win against Pakistan. The other occasion was his 4 for 64 in the second innings at Faisalabad in Oct 2004.

HMRKB Herath became the fourth Sri Lankan bowler to capture four or more wickets in an innings in its against Pakistan on two or more occasions. The others are M Muralitharan {08}, WPUJC Vaas {03} and GP Wickramasinghe {02}.

HMRKB Herath’s four for 15 in the second innings remain the best bowling figures amongst the Sri Lankan bowlers who have captured exact four wickets in Sri Lanka’s win against Pakistan.
