Sri Lanka and India scored 642 for 4d and 707 respectively in the second test at Col-SSC in Jul 2010 providing the fourth occasion of rival teams scoring 600 plus runs in their first innings in the annals of test cricket. The other three occasions are – Australia {656 for 8d} and England {611} at Manchester in Jul 1964, Sri Lanka {644 for 7d} and Pakistan {765 for 6d} at Karachi in Feb 2009 and England {600 for 6d} and West Indies {749 for 9d} at Bridgetown in Feb 2009. It is interesting to note that in three of the above four occasions, the team which has batted second has surpassed the total posted by the team which has batted first
