S Randiv earned the distinction of bowling most overs on debut. He bowled 73.0 six ball overs in this test. He is the only bowler to have bowled more than 50 overs on debut.
S Randiv is the eleventh bowler to bowl more than 70 overs {420 balls} amongst those bowlers who have conceded 200 plus runs in a test innings. His feat of bowling 420 plus balls in a test innings provide the 54th occasion of a bowler doing so in a test innings
S Randiv bowled 16 maiden overs in this test providing the fifth occasion of a bowler bowling 15 or more maiden overs in an innings amonst those who have conceded 200plus runs in a test innings. India’s 707 all out represent the third occasion of India posting a total of 700 plus runs in an innings. The other two occasions are – 705 for 7d vs Australia at Sydney in Jan 2004 and 726 for 9d vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai {BS} in Dec 2009.
India has posted its highest team total on home soil and on away soil against Sri Lanka. Its highest total on home soil is its 726 for 9d at Mumbai {BS} in Dec 2009 and while that on away soil is its 707 at Col-SSC in Jul 2010
India’s 707 in this test represent the 19th occasion of a team scoring 700 plus runs in a test innings. This total also represents the fifth occasion of team dismissed all out after scoring 700 plus runs. KTGD Prasad {101}, CRD Fernando {116}, S Randiv {222} and BAW Mendis {172} conceded 100 plus runs in this test providing the seventh occasion of four Sri Lankan bowlers conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings. It is the fourth such occasion against India. It also provide the eight such occasion in Sri Lanka-India test series {four occasions by Sri Lankan bowlers and four occasions by Indian bowlers
This test witnessed the first occasion of four bowlers from rival teams conceding 100 plus runs in Sri Lanka-India test series. The test cricket has witnessed four occasions of four bowlers from each team conceding 100 plus runs in an innings – England vs India at Lord’s in Jul 1990, Pakistan vs India at Faisalabad in Jan 2006, West Indies vs England at Bridgetown in Feb 2009 and Sri Lanka vs India at Col-SSC in Jul 2010.
It is interesting to note that in the Sri Lanka-India test at Col-SSC in Jul 2010 {this test} the aggregate of runs conceded is 1149 by eight bowlers which is a record for most runs conceded in the four tests in which four rival bowlers have conceded 100 plus runs – England vs India at Lord’s in Jul 1990 {runs conceded – 958}, Pakistan vs India at Faisalabad in Jan 2006 {runs conceded – 1086}, West Indies vs England at Bridgetown in Feb 2009 {runs conceded – 1020} and Sri Lanka vs India at Col-SSC in Jul 2010 {runs conceded – 1149}.
This test match produced an aggregate of 1478 runs which stands in the third place amongst the most aggregate total in Sri Lanka-India test series. The other two are – 1598 at Ahmedabad in Nov 2009 and 1489 at Col-RPS in Aug 1997
It is interesting to note that debutants from each team in this test earned contrasting records. Indian debutant SK Raina carved himself into record books with a hundred on test debut {120 runs}, while Sri Lankan debutant S Randiv conceded most runs by a bowler on test debut {222 runs}
MS Dhoni and A Mithun added 51 runs for the eighth wicket in this test providing the third occasion of a fifty plus runs partnership posted by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka for the eighth wicket. The other two occasions are – 70 runs between N Kapil Dev and L Sivaramakrishnan at Col-PSS in Sep 1985, 59 runs between SM Gavaskar and C Sharma at Col-SSC in Aug 1985
