India in Sri Lanka : Second Test – More about Tendulkar's hundreds

SR Tendulkar registered his 48th test hundred when he scored 108 not out at the end of the third day’s play. Break up of his 48 hundreds read thus – vs Australia {10}, vs Bangladesh {05}, vs England {07}, vs New Zealand {04}, vs Pakistan {02}, vs South Africa {05}, vs Sri Lanka {09}, vs West Indies {03} and vs Zimbabwe {03}. He has scored at least one hundred against each opposition he has played.

He has an aggregate of 1000 plus runs against seven teams out of the nine teams he has played against – vs Australia {2748}, vs England {2150}, vs New Zealand {1406}, vs Pakistan {1057}, vs South Africa {1415}, vs Sri Lanka {1805} and vs West Indies {1328}

SR Tendulkar has scored ten hundreds against Australia. He is the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score ten or more hundreds against Australia, after JB Hobbs of England who has an aggregate of 12 hundreds. Other batsmen who have scored nine hundreds against Australia are – DI Gower of England, WR Hammond of England, BC Lara of West Indies and RB Richardson of West Indies.

SR Tendulkar is the only batsman in the annals of test cricket to score nine hundreds against Sri Lanka. Others to score five hundreds are – M Azharuddin of India, DJ Cullinan of South Africa and Inzamam-ul-Haq of Pakistan.

Tendulkar’s aggregate of 2748 runs and ten hundreds against Australia is a record aggregate for most runs and most hundreds in the test series between India and Australia.

SM Gavaskar {2483} and SR Tendulkar {2150} are the two batsman to aggregate 2000 plus runs in India-England Test series. SR Tendulkar with seven hundreds to his credit owns the record for most hundreds in this test series

SR Tendulkar’s aggregate of 1415 runs against South Africa is a record aggregate in the test series between India-South Africa test series. SR Tendulkar and V Sehwag share the record for most hundreds in this test series. Both the batsmen have scored five hundreds each

SR Tendulkar, RT Ponting and ML Hayden share the record for most hundreds on home soil. All the three batsmen have scored 21 hundreds.

SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 6130 runs on away soil while batting at number 4. He has scored 23 hundreds and 25 half centuries. His aggregate runs, centuries and half centuries are all records for a batsman batting at number 4 on away soil. SR Tendulkar is the only batsman to score 6000 plus runs on away soil, score 20 plus hundreds on away soil and 25 half centuries on away soil. He is the only batsman to appear in 75 tests on away soil. The second test at Col-SSC against Sri Lanka in the on going test series in his 75th test on away soil

SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 5309 runs on home soil while batting at number 4. He has scored 19 hundreds and 21 half centuries. His aggregate runs, centuries and half centuries are all records for a batsman batting at number 4 on home soi. SR Tendulkar is the only batsman to score 5000 plus runs on home soil,

SR Tendulkar’s hundred in this test represents his 42nd hundred while batting at number 4. He has an aggregate of 11439 runs as of 28.07.10. His 42 hundreds and his aggregate of 11439 runs are the record for most hundreds and most runs by a batsman batting at number 4. SR Tendulkar is the only batsman to aggregate 11000 plus runs while batting at number 4

SR Tendulkar’s hundred in this test was his fifth hundred against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. SR Tendulkar now holds the record of becoming the first batsman in the annals of test cricket to score five or more hundreds against three specific oppositions on away soil – Vs Australia {06}, Vs Bangladesh {05} and vs Sri Lanka {05}. He wrested the record from SM Gavaskar who had scored five or more hundreds on away soil against two oppositions – vs Australia {05} and vs West Indies {07}

RT Ponting and SR Tendulkar are the only two batsmen in the annals of test cricket to score five or more hundreds against five specific oppositions. RT Ponting has achieved the feat thus – Vs England {08}, vs India {06}, vs Pakistan {05}, vs South Africa {08} and vs West Indies {07} : SR Tendulkar has achieved the feat thus – vs Australia {10}, vs Bangladesh {05}, vs England {07}, vs South Africa {05} and vs Sri Lanka {09}

SR Tendulkar and R Dravid are the only two batsmen in the annals of test cricket to score 1000 plus runs against seven specific oppositions.
