Fourth innings test centuries in a losing cause

Asad Shafiq of Pakistan scored 112 in the fourth innings of the second test against Sri Lanka at Dubai {DSC} which went in vain to provide the 75th occasion of a batsman’s fourth innings hundred in a losing cause in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the eighth occasion of a Pakistan batsman’s fourth innings hundred in a losing cause. All such occasions are tabulated below

Asad Shafiq became the second Pakistan batsman to witness his fourth innings hundred going in vain against Sri Lanka. Prior to this Moin Khan’s 117 not out at Sialkot in Sep 1995 had  gone in vain.

Asad Shafiq witnessed his second fourth innings century in a losing cause. He had  witnessed his 137 against Australia in Dec 2016 going in vain. He became  the sixth batsman to witness his two fourth innings centuries in a losing cause. Others are AR Border of Australia.
