Fourth innings centuries by batsmen in a losing cause

RL Chase of West Indies scored 102 not out in the fourth innings against England at Gros Islet in the just concluded test. His century was in a losing cause to provide the 83rd occasion of a batsman’s fourth innings century going in vain in the annals of test cricket. All such occasions are tabulated below.

RL Chase became the eighth batsman in the annals of test cricket to witness his fourth innings century in a losing cause on two occasions. Prior to this, he had witnessed his 101 not out against Pakistan at Roseau going in vain. The following table lists all the eight batsmen who have witnessed their fourth innings centuries in a losing cause on two occasions. RL  Chase became the first West Indies batsman to suffer such an ignominy.
