M Labuschagne and SPD Smith added 100 runs for the third wicket in this game to provide the 919th occasion of Australian batsmen posting a three figure partnership in a test innings. It also provides the 163rd occasion of Australian batsmen posting a three figure partnership in a test innings for the third wicket.

It also provides the 118th occasion of Australian batsmen posting a three figure partnership in a test innings against India. It also provides the 24th occasion of Australian batsmen posting a three figure partnership in a test innings for the third wicket against India.

It also provides the 19th occasion of Australian batsmen posting exact 100 runs partnership in a test innings. It also provides the first occasion of Australian batsmen posting exact 100 runs partnership in a test innings for the third wicket.

The other occasions were – RB Simpson and PM Toohey adding 100 runs for the fifth wicket against India at Perth in Dec 1977 and W Pucovski and M Labuschagne adding 100 runs in this test for the second wicket. It also provides the very first occasion of batsmen posting exact 100 runs for the consecutive second and third wicket in a test innings.

W Pucovski {62}, M Labuschagne {91} and SPD Smith {131} scored fifties in Australia’s innings to provide the 38th occasion of three Australian batsmen scoring fifties in an innings against India. It also provides the 20th such occasion on home soil and eighth such occasion at Sydney.

SPD Smith completed 1500 runs against India on home soil when he was on 61 during the course of his knock of 131 in Australia’s first innings. His run aggregate read 1570 at the end of Australian first innings. He became the fifth Australian batsman to total 1500 plus runs against India. Others are – RT Ponting {2555}, MJ Clarke {2049}, ML Hayden {1888} and AR Border {1567}

C Green, P Cummins and NM Lyon were dismissed for ducks in Australia’s first innings to provide the 179th, 180th and 181st occasion of Australian batsmen dismissed for ducks against India. It also provides the 79th, 80th and 81st occasion of Australian batsmen dismissed for ducks against India on home soil.

SPD Smith posted his second century against India at Sydney when he scored in Australia’s first innings. Prior to this he had scored 117 in Jan 2015. RA Jadeja captured four wickets conceding 62 runs in Australia’s first innings which fetched him an aggregate of 63 wickets against Australia. He became the sixth Indian bowler to capture 60 plus wickets against Australia. Others  are – A Kumble {111}, Harbhajan Singh {95}, R Ashwin {87}, N Kapil Dev {79} and Z Khan {61}

India opened its first innings through RG Sharma and Shubman Gill. They became 159th pair to have opened India’s innings in tests. They also became the 102nd pair to open the India’s innings on away soil.
