He now occupies the third place amongst the Indian bowlers who have captured most wickets in their test career with Harbhajan Singh. He went past Harbhajan Singh has captured 417 wickets to occupy the third place. A Kumble {619} and Kapil Dev {434} occupy the first two places.

TWM Latham {95} and WH Young {89} scored runs between 80 and 99 in New Zealand’s innings to provide the second occasion of New Zealand openers scoring plus between 80 and 99 in a test innings. The first such occasion was witnessed against England at Leeds in Aug 1983 when JG Wright {93} and BA Edgar {84} scored runs between 80 and 99.

AR Patel became the fourth bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture his first five wicket hauls in less than seven innings. Australia’s CT Turner and England’s T Richardson have performed the feat in seven innings and R Hogg of Australia’s first five wicket hauls came in six innings.

R Ashwin’s three wickets in New Zealand’s first innings fetched him an aggregate of 416 wickets in his test career. He needs two more wickets to overhaul Harbhajan Singh’s tally of 417 wickets and to occupy the third place in the list of Indian bowlers who have captured most wickets. A Kumble {619} and Kapil Dev {434} occupy the first two places.

R Ashwin’s three wickets in New Zealand’s first innings fetched him an aggregate of 55 wickets in his test career against New Zealand. He now shares the second place with EAS Prasanna amongst the Indian bowlers who have captured most wickets against New Zealand. R Ashwin needs three more wicket to overhaul the tally of BS Bedi’s 57 wickets to become India’s most wicket taker against New Zealand.

KL Jamieson captured his 50th test wicket when he bowled S Gill in India’s second innings. He earned the distinction of becoming the 38th New Zealand bowler to capture 50 plus wickets in tests. His 50 wickets came in his ninth test and 18 innings.

KS Bharat holds the record of most dismissals in an innings by a substitute wicket keeper – three in the annals of test cricket. JN Hamilton of West Indies and M Rizwan of Pakistan held the previous record with two dismissals.

KS Bharat became the second Indian substitute wicket keeper to effect a dismissal in a test innings after KD Karthik. KD Karthik had caught LT Ngidi of South Africa at Johannesburg in 2017/18
