Captains scoring five or more fifties in a single edition of IPL – V Kohli is the new addition to the elite list

V Kohli’s 52 in the game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders at Bangalore on 02.05.16 represents his fifth fifty as captain in the ongoing edition of IPL 2016. His feat of five fifties in IPL 2016 provides the seventh occasion of a captain scoring five or more fifties in a single edition of IPL. He became the sixth captain to accomplish such a feat. Others are – SR Tendulkar {five in 2010}, G Gambhir {five in 2012}, V Sehwag {five in 2012}, DA Warner {seven in 2015 and five in 2016} and RG Sharma {five in 2016}

IPL 2016 is the only edition in the history of IPL to witness three captains scoring five or more fifties which is a record for most captains scoring five or more fifties in a single edition – three captains achieving the feat. IPL 2012 had witnessed two captains – G Gambhir and V Sehwag – accomplishing such a feat.

DA Warner of Sunrisers scored 92 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Hyd-RGS on 30.04.16 to register his fifth fifty in 2016 edition as captain of Sunrisers. He achieved a distinction which no captain has achieved in Indian Premier League He became the first and the only captain to score five or more fifties in two separate editions of IPL. He had scored seven fifties in 2015 edition and followed with five in 2016. It is interesting to note that DA Warner’s feat has come in two consecutive editions of IPL.
