Some interesting nuggets of the second test between West Indies and India at Port of Spain

The second test at Port of Spain marked the 100th test between the two teams. West Indies and India would become the ninth opponents to play 100 tests in the annals of test cricket.

West Indies will have India as its third opponent against whom it would be playing its 100th test. West Indies has played 118 tests against Aus and 163 tests against Eng.

V Kohli scored 121 in this test which was the 100th test between the two teams. By a strange coincidence SM Gavaskar had also scored the same score of 121 at Delhi in Oct 1983 which was the 50th test between the two teams.

V Kohli was dismissed run out for 121 in India’s first innings providing the 121st occasion of a batsman dismissed run out after scoring a century in a test innings in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the 17th occasion of an Indian batsman dismissed run out after scoring a century.

It also provides the second occasion of an Indian batsman dismissed run out after scoring a century.GR Viswanath was dismissed run out for 112 in Apr 1976 at the same venue – Port of Spain.

RG Sharma became the first India captain opener to score twin half centuries in a test.He scored 80 and 57 in this test.It also provides the 26th occasion of a captain opener scoring twin half centuries in a test in the annals of test cricket

His feat provides the third occasion of an Indian captain openers scoring twin fifties in a test which includes twin centuries. Interestingly all the three occasions are against West Indies.

R Ashwin’s three wickets in this test fetched him an aggregate of 75 wickets against West Indies. He became the second Indian bowler to capture 75 plus wickets against West Indies. Kapil Dev is the other Indian bowler to capture 75 plus wickets against West Indies. He has taken 89 wickets to his credit. Thus R Ashwin became the first Indian spin bowler to capture 75 wickets against West Indies.
