Some interesting statistical nuggets unearthed by me in India-Australia Test series
It’s a known fact that any test series between two teams throws up some interesting statistics. I have unearthed a few such statistics in India-Australia test series which are interesting and would like to share with netizens
Test Cricket witnessed – perhaps for the first time – rival bowlers capturing 100 wickets in the same test against their opposition in India-Australia Test series R Ashwin for India captured his 100th wicket against Australia and NM Lyon captured 100 wickets against India. By a coincidence, R Ashwin and NM Lyon are off spin bowlers in their trade. This feat was achieved by the two bowlers at Delhi between India and Australia in Feb 2023
It is an amazing coincidence that two rival batsmen in India-Australia Test series ended with an identical number of runs against each other at the end of a test after completing 2000 plus runs against each other in the same test. Perhaps, the only occasion in the annals of test cricket
V Kohli’s aggregate runs against Australia read 2042 at the end of WTC Final between Australia and India at The Oval. He completed 2000 runs against Australia in this test. SPD Smith’s run aggregate against India read 2042 at the end of this test. He also completed 2000 runs against India in this test.
