Indian teenager hits 556 not out in Baroda under-14 tournament

Indian teenager hits 556 not out in Baroda under-14 tournament

Priyanshu  Moliya

What was your top score at the age of 14? Fifty? Seventy-five? Not many would have made it past 100.

An Indian teenager has set a remarkable personal best in a two-day game in Baroda on Tuesday.

Priyanshu Moliya, batting for Mohinder Lala Amarnath Cricket Academy, finished unbeaten on 556 in a Shri DK Gaekwad Under-14 tournament match against Yogi Cricket Academy.

The youngster, who is mentored by former India international Mohinder Amarnath, struck 98 fours and one six as he accumulated his runs from 319 balls in his side’s whopping 826 for four.

Moliya had already taken four wickets with the ball, as Yogi Academy were bowled out for just 52 on day one, before taking control of the game with the bat at Vadodara Cricket Academy.

He made 494 more runs than any other individual in his team, surpassing his previous best of 254, made in the same tournament last year.

“I was just playing my normal game as the bowling attack was good,” Moliya told Mid-Day.

“It was a satisfying innings, but yes, I was beaten on four to five occasions.

“After my first hundred on Monday, I told myself that I need to score 200. I set goals of 100 runs each and was determined to continue playing the same way.”

“When I saw him for the first time, I knew I was seeing something special. He is a fine talent and he will get better with exposure. I like his passion as well,” his mentor, Amarnath, said.

Moliya claimed two second-innings wickets as Yogi were dismissed for 84 to lose by an innings and 689 runs.

Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season will be listed as the “Historic Season” in the annals of Umpiring in India.

Vrinda Rathi (Mumbai CA) and Janani Narayanan ( Tamil Nadu CA) will be making their umpiring debut in Ranji Trophy matches scheduled to be played at Puducherry and Raipur to earn the distinction of becoming the first BCCI Qualified Lady Umpires to officiate National Level matches of BCCI. Along with them, a couple of their male batch mates will also be debuting in various venues that will host Ranji Trophy matches in the country.

Here’s Ganesh Iyer,  one of the veteran umpire on the Maidan circuit of Mumbai wishing them  “All the very best for a long and illustrious career ahead”.  These two women umpires will be making their debut in the second round and third round matches of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season. Puducherry will host the Plate Group match between Puducherry and Meghalaya, from Nov 12-15, 2018, while Raipur will host the Elite Group match between Chattisgarh and Railways, from Nov 20-23, 2018

Ganesh Iyer says that he would like to pass on his experience to these two debutant women umpires. “There’s was a ton of nerves for every match I’ve been in; it doesn’t matter if it was my debut.” So just enjoy the game, soak in the experience and things will go on well by itself.

Foot Note:

However, the credit of a woman umpire to officiate a men’s match goes to Ms. Padma of  Accountant General Office, Bangalore who passed the Umpiring Examination conducted by Mysore State Cricket Association {now Karnataka State Cricket Assocication} in the 1970s and officiated a few first division league matches conducted  by the Association
