centuries in successive tests. His 156 against England in rhe ongoing test at
Manchester was his third successive test century. Prior to this knock he had
scored 5 and 135 against Sri Lanka ar Karachi in Dec 2019 and 100 against
Bangladesh at Rawalpindi in Feb 2020.Test cricket has witnessed 77 occasions of

Statistical highlights of the first day’s play of the first test between England and Pakistan at Manchester
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first in this test to
provide the 140th occasion of
Pakistan doing so. It also provides the

Azhar Ali scored a duck in Pakistan’s first innings to provide
the 560th occasion of a captain scoring a duck in an innings in the
annals of test cricket. It also provides the 147th occasion of a

England.

Azhar Ali became the second Pakistan captain to score a duck
against England at Manchester after Inzamam-ul-Huq. Inzamam-ul-Huq had failed
to open his account against England at Manchester in Jul 2006. Azhar Ali became
the eleventh captain to score a duck against England at Manchester
Azhar Ali’s duck in this test provides the 15th
occasion of his scoring a duck in a test innings. He became seventh Pakistan
batsman to score 15 or more ducks in tests. Others are – Danish Kaneria {25},
Waqar Younis {21}, Wasim Bari {19}, Younis Khan {19}, Wasin Akram {17} and Umar

Azhar Ali’s duck in this test provides the second occasion of
his scoring a duck in a test innings while captaining Pakistan. The other
occasion was against Sri Lanka in the first innings at Karachi in Dec 2019.

In fact this is his first captaincy assignment against England. He had become
the 19th captain to lead Pakistan against England.

century against England but also represent his highest individual score against
England. Prior to this he had scored 68 not out at Lord’s in May 2018
