Indian Premier League Statistics in a nutshell – Part Two

There are eight occasions of a team winning a game by one run margin. Ten occasions of batsmen dismissed hit wicket in the tournament which include an occasion of captain and an occasion of wicket keeper batsman.

The tournament has witnessed eight occasions of bowlers capturing 25 plus wickets in an edition of the tournament of which seven occasions are by overseas bowlers. B Kumar of Sunrisers is the lone Indian bowler to capture 25 plus wickets in the tournament. He captured 26 wickets in 2017 edition. DJ Bravo of Chennai is the only bowler to capture 25 plus wickets in two editions. He captured 32 wickets in 2013 and 28 wickets in 2015 editions. DJ Bravo with 32 wickets in 2013 edition owns the record for most wickets by a bowler in an IPL edition. Infact, he remains the only bowler to capture 30 plus wickets in an edition.

The tournament has witnessed 50 occasions of batsmen aggregating 1000 plus runs for a single team. It has also witnessed 20 occasions of overseas batsmen achieving such a feat.

YK Pathan, RV Uthappa, RG Sharma and G Gabhir are the four batsmen who have aggregated 1000 runs appearing for two teams. The performance of these four batsmen are detailed below

DA Warner owns the record for scoring most fifties in the tournament. He has scored 48 fifties. He has scored four centuries and 44 half centuries. His 44 half centuries is a record for most half centuries by a batsman in the tournament. The tournament has witnessed 13 batsmen scoring 20 plus fifties of which five are overseas batsmen. V Kohli with 41 fifties to his credit owns the record for most fifties by an Indian batsman in the tournament. SK Raina with 38 half centuries owns the record for most half centuries by an Indian batsman in the tournament. V Kohli with five centuries to his credit owns the record for most fifties by an Indian batsman in the tournament and also the record for most centuries by a batsman in the tournament.

There are seventeen batsmen who have scored 100 plus boundary sixes in the tournament of which seven are overseas batsmen. MS Dhoni with 209 boundary sixes owns the record for most boundary sixes by an Indian batsman and is also the only Indian batsman to score 200 plus boundary sixes. CH Gayle with 326 boundary sixes not only owns the record for most boundary sixes by a batsman in the tournament, but also owns the record for most boundary sixes by an overseas batsman.

There are fourteen batsmen who have scored 300 plus boundary fours in the tournament of which four are overseas batsman. S Dhawan with 524 boundary fours not only owns the record for most boundary fours by a batsman in the tournament, but also owns the record for most boundary fours by an Indian batsman. He is the only batsman to score 500 plus boundary fours in the tournament. DA Warner with 458 boundary fours owns the record for most boundary fours by an overseas batsman in the tournament

There are 51 occasions of batsmen scoring 500 plus runs in an edition.2018 edition has witnessed most batsmen accomplishing such a feat. Eight batsmen have scored 500 plus runs in this edition. Bangalore owns the record with eleven occasions of batsmen scoring 500 plus runs in an edition. DA Warner has scored 500 plus runs in four consecutive editions, while CH Gayle has performed such a feat in three consecutive editions.

There are 31 cricketers who have played 100 plus games of which nine are overseas cricketer. SK Raina with 193 matches not only owns the record for most capped cricketer in the tournament but also the record for most capped Indian cricketer. AB de Villiers with 154 matches owns the record for most capped overseas cricketer.

V Kohli owns the record for scoring most fifties for a single team. He has scored 41 fifties while playing for Bangalore, He also owns the record for scoring most boundary fours for a single team. He has scored 480 boundary fours while playing for Bangalore. CH Gayle owns the record for scoring most boundary sixes for a single team. He has scored 239 boundary sixes while playing for Bangalore.

There are 18 games won on DLM/DLS Method – Eight games on DLM and ten games on DLS. DLS came into force from 2014 onwards.

The tournament has witnessed sixteen occasions of captains scoring exact fifty runs in an innings.  RG Sharma of Mumbai has scored exact 50 runs on three occasions.

KC Sangakkara is the only wicketkeeper in the tournament to effect five dismissals.
