The 34th IPL game between Chennai and Delhi at Sharjah on 17.10.20 in the ongoing IPL in United Arab Emirates threw up unusual stats in the history of Indian Premier League. Chennai openers SM Curran and F du Plessis scored zero and 58 and Delhi openers PP Shaw and S Dhawan scored zero and 101 not out providing the second such occasion of openers from rival teams scoring zero and a fifty. The first such occasion was witnessed in the game between Bangalore and Delhi at Bangalore on 17.04.16. Bangalore openers CH Gayle and V Kohli scored zero and 70 while Delhi openers Q de Kock and SS Iyer scored 106 and zero. The following table lists this feat. It is interesting to note in the captioned two instances, the openers of the team which batted second scored zero and century.

Another interesting observation is the interval between these two occasions is four years and sis months. Bangalore instance happened on 17.04.16, while the Sharjah instance happened on 17.10.20. Note both the instances were on the same date – 17th.
