Huge error in Statistics on MS Dhoni by Statistician of Star Sports

Huge error in Statistics on MS Dhoni by Statistician of Star Sports

I got a message on Whatsapp that MS Dhoni has played 200 IPL games for CSK from Sunil, an ardent follower of the game. I queried him as who gave him the stats. He replied me that he saw the stats on Star TV telecast during the game between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings played at Mumbai

Myself being one of the Senior Cricket statistician in the country and following IPL games closely, noted that something amiss at the stats and checked the veracity of the stats.

Chennai Super Kings has played 181 IPL games so far including yesterday’s game. So the question of MS Dhoni appearing in 200 IPL games does not arise at all

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/team/results_summary.html?id=117;type=trophy

Further MS Dhoni has played 206 IPL games including yesterday’s game. He has represented two teams – Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/individual/most_matches_career.html?id=117;type=trophy

He has played 176 games representing Chennai Super Kings and 30 games representing Rising Pune Supergiants

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/individual/most_matches_career.html?id=117;team=4343;type=trophy

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/individual/most_matches_career.html?id=117;team=5843;type=trophy

He has captained 190 games in IPL. He has captained Chennai Super Kings on 176 occasions and captained Rising Pune Supergiants on 14 occasions.

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/individual/most_matches_as_captain.html?id=117;team=4343;type=trophy

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/individual/most_matches_as_captain.html?id=117;team=5843;type=trophy

It’s a huge error on the part of the Star Sports Statistician. I think someone concerned will take care of such huge errors in future. In the past also there were some serious errors were flashed on the screen.
