RA Jadeja scored six fifties in this series to provide the 42nd occasion of a batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the 13th occasion of a batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series against England.

It also provides the seventh occasion of a batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series. It also provides the first occasion of an Indian batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series against England.

India amassed 3809 runs in this series became the second team to score 3800 plus runs in five or six test series. Australia has scored 3877 runs in a six test series against England in 1989. India’s 3809 runs in this series represent the highest run aggregate in a five test series. The previous best was England’s 3757 runs against Australia in a five test series of 1928-29.

JC Tongue captured five for 125 in India’s second innings to provide the 74th occasion of an England bowler capturing five or more wickets against India. It also provides 41st occasion of an England bowler capturing five or more wickets against India on home soil.

This series witnessed 50 fifties scored by batsmen – 22 by England batsmen and 28 by Indian batsmen – providing the second occasion of 50 fifties scored by batsmen in a test series. The other occasion was the six test Ashes series between England and Australia in 1993. Thus both these occasions are witnessed on England soil. This series has produced 7187 runs to provide the second occasion of a test series a test series producing an aggregate of 7000 plus runs in the annals of test cricket,. The first occasion was in the six test Ashes series 1993 which produced 7221 runs

The 7187 runs scored in this series provided the record for most runs scored in a five test series. The previous record was 6826 runs in the five test Ashes series played in Australia in 1928-29

JE Root registered his 13th century against India to become the third batsman to score 13 or more centuries against a specific opposition in the annals of test cricket.  Others are – DG Bradman – 19 against England and SM Gavaskar – 13 against West Indies
