AM Rahane’s world record – pouches eight catches in a test

AM Rahane of India wrote himself into the record books by pouching eight catches in the ongoing test against Sri Lanka at Galle. His eight catches represent the world record for most catches by a fieldsman other than the wicket keepers. AM Rahan4 went past GS Chappell of Australia, Yajurvindra Singh of India, HP Tilakaratne of Sri Lanka, SP Fleming of New Zealand and ML Hayden of Australa who had taken seven catches in a test and shared the previous record for most catches in a test.

AM Rahane became the second Indian fieldsman other than the wicket keeper to pouch seven or more catches in a test after Yajurvindra Singh. Yajurvindra Singh had held seven catches against England at Bangalore in Jan 1977

AM Rahane became the second fieldsman other than the wicket keeper to pouch seven or more catches in a test against Sri Lanka after ML Hayden or Australia. ML Hayden had held seven catches against Sri Lanka at Galle in Mar 2004. Thus AM Rahane’s effort not only represents a record against Sri Lanka but also represents a ground record at Galle
