200 plus runs partnerships by Indian batsmen in a losing cause

S Dhawan and V Kohli of India added 227 runs for the third wicket in the just concluded Galle test against Sri Lanka. India lost the test by 63 runs.  The partnership of 227 runs for the third wicket between S Dhawan and V Kohli provide the fifth occasion of India losing a test when its batsmen have posted a 200 plus runs partnership. All the five occasions are listed below. Coincidentally all these five occasions are on away soil.

The previous best were – 222 runs for the fourth wicket between VS Hazare and VL Manjrekar against England at Leeds in Jun 1952 and 222 runs for the sixth wicket between M Azharuddin and SR Tendulkar against South Africa at Cape Town in Jan 1997
