Karnataka denied themselves of a possible victory by not scoring fast at the beginning of the fourth day and to some extent the decision of the umpires too marred the chances of carving out a victory and had to be satisfied for a drawn encounter.
This is the third successive match which has failed to produce an outright result between the two teams, after Karnataka’s victory by 167 runs in 2005/06 at B’lore in 2005/06. In 2006/07, the match had ended in a draw – Karnataka gaining the vital first innings lead. In 2007/08 also the match ended in a draw with the rain interruption. In all, this is the 9th drawn game in 14 matches between the two teams. In the remaining five matches, Karnataka has won four matches and lost one match.
R Vinaykumar returned with his best bowling performance in an innings when he capturede 8 for 32 in the first innings. His previous best bowling innings effort was 6 for 38 against Maharashtra at Ratnagiri in 2007/08. Vinaykumar also recorded his best match bowling performance by capturing 11-102 in this match improving upon his best match bowling performance of 10 for 104 against Maharashtra at Ratnagiri in 2007/08.
Vinaykumar’s 8 for 32 also represents his best bowling innings effort against Delhi, His previoous best was 5 for-121 at B’lore in 2007/08. Vinaykumar with his 11 for 102 became the third Karnataka bowler to take ten or more wickets in a match against Delhi after BS Chandrasekhar and BK Venkatesh Prasad.. BKV Prasad holds the record for the best match figures by a Karnataka bowler against Delhi. BS Chandrasekhar is the only Karnataka bowler to take ten wickets against Delhi on two occasions. R Vinaykumar’s 11 for 102 in this game provide the fourth occasion of a Karnataka bowler capturing ten plus wickets against Delhi.

R Vinaykumar’s 8 for 32 in the first innings provide the second occasion of his capturing five wickets in an innings against Delhi, the first occasion being his 5 for 121 at B’lore in 2007-08. Vinaykumar becomes the third Karnataka bowler to take five plus wickets in an innings against Delhi on two or more occasions, the other two being – BS Chandrasekhar {03} and BKV Prasad {02}. VS Thilaknaidu completed 4000 runs in Ranji Trophy when he was on 1 during his innings of 6 in the first innings. He reached the landamark in his 81st match and 119th innings.

S Dhawan scored his seventh Ranji Trophy century when he scored an exact 100 in Delhi’s second innings. It was his 34th Ranji Trophy match. S Dhawan’s exact hundred represents the third hundred against Karnataka, the other two being – 130 at Delhi in 2004/05 and 148 at B’lore in 2007/08.
R Bhatia aggregated 3000 runs in Ranji Trophy when he reached 62 in his 2nd innings score of 64. Bhatia’s 64 is his 12th fifty in his 51st match.
