The first match of the KPL 2016 was between these two teams. Hubli Tigers won the toss and inserted the opposition. Namma Shivamogga openers SH Kirmani and Nikin Jose added 89 runs for the first wicket. The first wicket fell in the 13th over. SH Kirmani almost carried the bat through the twenty overs scoring 69. He was dismissed bowled by S Araving off the last ball of the innings. SH Kirmani’s 69 came in 63 deliveries and contained six boundary fours and two boundary sixes

Hubli Tigers chase was not so comfortable. It held its nerves to post a two wickets win with an over to spare. It lost wickets are regular intervals. Two crucial run outs {AM Reddy and KN Bharath} and two batsmen dismissed for first ball ducks {CJ William and S Aravind} did not go well for the chasing team. But the ninth wicket pair of NV Prasad and Kranthi Kumar saw them through by adding 26 runs in an unfinished stand. NV Prasad scored 22 not out in the stand of 26 runs. For the losers, AA Kazi shone with the leather with a bag of 3 for 23.
