Muralitharan scripted a new world record for most maiden overs bowled by a bowler in the annals of test cricket. At the end of the test, he had bowled 1768 maiden over as against Shane Warne’s 1761 maiden overs.
DPMD Jayawardene’s 114 in this test represent the 12th fifty at Galle. He became the only batsman in the world to register 12 or more fifties at two specific venues. Apart form Galle, he has registered 14 fifties at Col-SSC.

TM Dilshan scored 123 not out in second innings. He had scored 92 in the first innings. His scores of 92 and 123 not out in this test provide the 41st occasion of a batsman registering a ninety and a hundred in a test match.
TM Dilshna with his 92 and 123 not out in this test became the fourth Sri Lankan batsman to earn such a distinction. The others are – LRD Mendis – 111 and 94 vs England at Lord’s in Aug 1984, PA de Silva – 96 and 123 vs New Zealand at Auckland in Mar 1991 and KC Sangakkara – 92 and 152 vs England at Kandy in Dec 2007.
TM Dilshan with his 92 and 123 not out became the second Sri Lankan batsman after PA de Silva to register a hundred and ninety in a test against New Zealand.

TM Dilshan became the first batsman to register hundred and ninety against New Zealand on away soil. All the other six instances have been at home soil.
TG McIntosh’s 69 in the first innings provide the 18th occasion of a New Zealand opening batsman registering fifty against Sri Lanka.
BB McCullum’s run out for 29 in New Zealand’s second innings of this test provide the the third occasion of a New Zealand wicket keeper batsman to be dismissed run out in a test innings against Sri Lanka. The other two occasions are – AC Parore for 25 and 7 – in both innings at Hamilton in March 1997.
KC Sangakkara’s run out for 46 in Sri Lanka’s second innings provide the eighth occasion of a Sri Lankan captain dismissed run out in a test innings against various oppositions. He is the second Sri Lankan captain to be dismissed run out against New Zealand after A Ranatunga who was run out for four runs at Col-SSC in Jun 1998.
Sri Lanka won this test by 202 runs providing the ninth occasion of Sri Lanka winning a test by 200 plus runs margin. The following table lists all the nine instances.
