MS Dhoni of India and RT Ponting of Australia aggregated 1198 runs in 2009 providing the first occasion of two captains aggregating identical number of runs in a calendar year which is the first of its kind in the history of one day internationals

Their feat of 1000 runs in 2009 takes the number of instances of captains scoring 1000 plus runs in a calendar year to fourteen which are listed below.

RT Ponting’s 1198 runs in 2009 represent the fourth occasion of his scoring 1000 run in a calendar year. Prior to this, he had an aggregate of 1154 in 2003, 1181 in 2005, 1424 in 2007. RT Ponting is the only captain in the history of one day games to complete 1000 runs in four calendar years

MS Dhoni’s feat of 1000 runs in 2009 gave him another distinction. He became the third captain in the history of one day internationals to aggregate 1000 plus runs on two occasions. Dhoni has aggregated 1000 runs in 2008 when he had scored 2009. Other two captains are SC Ganguly of India and ST Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka

ST Jayasuriya was the first captain to accomplish this feat by aggregating 1202 in 2001 and following it up with 1077 in 2002. MS Dhoni emulated ST Jayasuriya by scoring 1097 and 2008 and 1198 in 2009

RT Ponitng’s 1424 runs in 2007 remains the highest run aggregate by a captain in the history of one day internationals.

GC Smith of South Africa remains the only captain in the history of one day internationals to aggregate 1000 plus runs with out a hundred. He amassed 1079 runs with 96 as highest individual score

SR Tendulkar of India was the first captain to score 1000 runs in a calendar year. He totaled 1011 runs in 1997 from 39 matches. His 39 matches is also a record in itself as it represents the most number of matches taken by a captain to complete 1000 runs.

Another Indian captain SC Ganguly completed 1000 runs in least number of matches. He aggregated 1223 runs in 2000 in 25 matches
