South Africa vs England Test series : GC Smith becomes the second captain to aggregate 6000 test runs

Greame Smith of South Africa became the second captain in the annals of test cricket to aggregate 6000 plus runs. He reached the mile stone when he was on 125 during his knock of 162 not out at the end of the third day in the third test between South Africa and England at Cape Town. At the end of the third day, his aggregate stood at 6037 runs.

AR Border of Australia is the other captain to have an aggregate of 6000 plus runs – 6623 to be precise.

GC Smith’s 162 not out in the second innings of this test represent his 17th hundred as captain and he is one hundred shy of RT Ponting who has 18 hundreds while leading his country. RT Ponting’s 18 hundreds is the record for most hundreds by a captain as on date in the annals of test cricket.
