JE Root emulates AB de Villiers to score a fifty in twelve consecutive test matches

JE Root of England scored 59 in the first innings of the ongoing Leeds test against West Indies to emulate AB de Villiers of South Africa who had scored fifty in twelve consecutive test matches. As on date AB de Villers and JE Root are the only two batsmen in the annals of test cricket to  score a fifty in twelve consecutive test matches. JE Root went past – IVA Richards of West Indies, G Gambhir of India, V Sehwag of India and Mominul Haque of Bangladesh who had scored a fifty in eleven consecutive tests – on his way to share the world record.
