Sri Lanka wins the historic test – Teams dismissed for a total of less than 99 runs in the third innings of the test and winning the test
Sri Lanka was dismissed for 96 in the third innings of the test against Pakistan in the just concluded test at Dubai {DSC}. Pakistan was dismissed for 248 in its second innings, leaving Sri Lanka victorious by 68 runs to provide the fourth occasion of a team winning the test after being dismissed all out for a total less than 99 in the third innings of a test.
The first such occasion was in Jul 1988, when Australia won the test at Lord’s against England. Australia was dismissed for 60 in the third innings. The second such occasion was witnessed when England beat Australia at The Oval in Aug 1896. England was dismissed for 84 in the third innings of this test. Australia won the test against England at Manchester in July 1902 after being dismissed for 86 in the third innings of this test. Sri Lanka’s win came after 115 years when it won the Dubai test against Pakistan.

Sri Lanka’s 96 was the highest third innings total and the lead of 316 was also the highest lead amongst the four wins that has been carved by the teams under this category of statistics
