Double Centurions at Chepauk – JE Root joins the elite list

JE Root of England became the tenth batsman to score 200 plus runs in a test innings at Chepauk when he scored 218 in the ongoing test against India. The first ever double century at Chepauk was scored by Gundappa Viswanath who scored the test cricket’s first ever “Double Nelson” – 222 against England in Jan 1982. JE Root became the fifth visiting batsman to score 200 plus runs in a test innings against India at Chepauk.  His 218 in the ongoing test provides the highest individual score by a visiting batsman against India at Chepauk. The previous best was 210 by Australian batsman DA Jones in Sep 1986. All the five centuries are tabulated below.
