Hobart became the eleventh ground to host a day-night test match and also became the fourth ground in Australia to host a day-night test

England won the toss and elected to field first to provide the 31st occasion of England doing so against Australia. It also provides the 19th occasion of England doing so against Australia in Australia.

DA Warner was dismissed for a zero to provide the 98th occasion of an Australian opening batsman dismissed for a duck in an innings against England. It also provides the 52nd occasion of an Australian opening batsman dismissed for a duck in an innings against England on home soil. DA Warner became the first batsman to be dismissed for a duck at Hobart.

DA Warner’s duck in this test represents his tenth duck of his test career while opening the innings and he became the 19th opening batsman to collect ten or more ducks in the annals of test cricket. He is the second Australian opening batsman to score ten or more ducks after ML Hayden. ML Hayden has scored 14 ducks in his test career.

DA Warner became the tenth left handed opening batsman to score ten or more ducks in the annals of test cricket. He is the second Australian left hand opening batsman to score ten or more ducks after ML Hayden. ML Hayden has scored 14 ducks in his test career.

DA Warner’s duck in this test represents his fifth duck of his test career as an opening batsman against England. He became the second Australian opening batsman to score five ducks against England after VT Trumper.

It is interesting to note that both the batsmen have collected a pair while scoring five ducks. VT Trumper collected a paid at Melbourne in Feb 1908 while DA Warner’s pair came at Manchester in Sep 2019.

It took 113 years and nine months for DA Warner to equal the record of five ducks by an Australian opening batsman against England. DA Warner’s fifth duck came in Jan 2022 while VT Trumper had scored his fifth duck in Feb 1908.

DA Warner and SPD Smith scored ducks in this test to provide the eighth and ninth occasion of Australian batsmen scoring ducks in a day-night test. It also provides the 79th and 80th occasion of a batsman scoring ducks in a day-night test.

DA Warner’s 22 ball duck is one of the three ducks in a day-night test where a batsman has played 20 plus deliveries before scoring a duck.

Thus DA Warner’s 22 ball duck is a record in a day-night test for a “most ball duck”. Previous record was 21 ball duck by PJ Cummins against Sri Lanka at Brisbane in Jan 2019.

DA Warner became the 14th opening batsman and also the first Australian opening batsman to score a duck in a day-night test.

DA Warner and SPD Smith scored ducks in this test to provide the fifth and sixth occasion of batsmen scoring ducks in a day-night test in Australia-England test series. They also became the first and second Australian batsmen to score ducks in a day-night test against England.

DA Warner scored duck in this test to provide the second occasion of an opening batsman scoring duck in a day-night test in Australia-England test series. H Hameed of England is the other opening batsman to score a duck, He was dismissed without scoring in fourth innings of the Adelaide test in Dec 2021.

This is the first test series between Australia and England in Australia in which two day-night tests are played. Apart from the current ongoing test at Hobart, the second test of the series played at Adelaide in Dec 2021 was also a day-night test.

TM Head of Australia scored 101 in this test to provide the 323rd occasion of Australian batsman scoring a century against England. It also provides the 182nd occasion of Australian batsman scoring a century against England on home soil.

TM Head became the third Australian batsman to score a century against England in a day-night test.
