The tour started with a three-match T20I series where Temba Bavuma led the visitors. It was an entertaining series which ended in India’s favor by 2-1. After the T20I series, the two teams competed in a three-match ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series.

Temba Bavuma started as the captain for the first game in this series, but he fell sick before the second game. Keshav Maharaj led the team in the second ODI. However, before the third ODI, even Maharaj was unwell. Hence, David Miller lead the team in the third one day game
