It also provides the 57th   occasion of an Australian bowler capturing six or more wickets in an innings against England in England. It also provides the sixth occasion of an Australian bowler capturing six or more wickets in an innings against England in the tests played at Leeds.

It also provides the 34th   occasion of an Australian pace bowler capturing six or more wickets in an innings against England in England. It also provides the fifth occasion of an Australian pace bowler capturing six or more wickets in an innings against England in the tests played at Leeds.

R Benaud was the other Australian captain to capture six wickets in an innings against England in England. He had returned with figures of 6-70 at Manchester in Jul 1961. Thus PJ Cummins emulated R Benaud after a lapse of 42 years taking months and year to account.

It is interesting to note that no Australian captain has ever taken a five wicket haul against England at Leeds prior to PJ Cummins’ feat of six for 91 in this test. The previous best bowling figures by an Australian captain against England at Leeds is credited to WM Armstrong who had returned with figures of two for six in the fourth innings of the test in July 1921 – 102 years back

SPD Smith was making his 100th appearance in this test. He became the 15th Australian cricketer to make 100 plus test appearances and 75th cricketer overall to make 100 plus test appearances in the annals of test cricket

SPD Smith pouched five catches in England’s first innings. He became the first Australian fieldsman other than the wicket keeper to pouch five catches in an innings against England.

His feat makes him the third fieldsman to take five catches in an innings against England.
