JE Root’s scored 176 not out at the end of the third day of the test which fetched him an aggregate of 12578 test runs. He now holds the record of scoring most runs for England. He went past AN Cook who had an aggregate of 12472 runs

JE Root’s 176 not out represents his 99^th fifty – 35C plus 64HC.  He now needs one more fifty for his 100^th fifty. If he gets it, he would then become the fourth  batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 100 fifties. Others are – SR Tendulkar {119], JH Kallis {103} and RT Ponting {103}. He also would become the first England batsman to achieve such a feat.
