It also provides the fourth occasion of England batsmen posting century partnerships for the consecutive second, third and fourth wickets in a test innings and the first such occasion in the history of test cricket against Pakistan.

JE Root’s scored 176 not out at the end of the third day of the test which fetched him an aggregate of 12578 test runs. He now holds the record of scoring most runs for England. He went past AN Cook who had an aggregate of 12472 runs

JE Root’s 176 not out represents his 99th fifty – 35C plus 64HC.  He now needs one more fifty for his 100th fifty. If he gets it, he would then become the fourth  batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 100 fifties. Others are – SR Tendulkar {119], JH Kallis {103} and RT Ponting {103}. He also would become the first England batsman to achieve such a feat.

This test witnessed two rival batsmen scoring 150 plus runs – Shan Masood {151} in the first innings of the test and JE Root {176*} in the second innings of the test – to provide the 97th occasion of rival batsmen scoring 150 plus runs in the first and second innings of a test.
