SL Malinga captured five for 50 in this test providing the 130th occasion of a Sri Lankan bowler capturing five or more wickets in an innings. His figures provide the 20th occasion of a Sri Lankan bowler capturing five or more wickets in an innings against India

VVS Laxman and I Sharma added 68 runs for the ninth wicket in the second innings of this test providing the fourth occasion of a fifty plus runs stand by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka for the ninth wicket. The other three occasions are – 89 runs between SC Ganguly and A Kuruvilla at Mohali in Nov 1997, 67 runs between M Azharuddin and RK Chauhan at Ahmedabad in Feb 1994 and 60 runs between R Dravid and BKV Prasad at Galle in Aug 2001

Thus the stand of 68 runs between VVS Laxman and I Sharma in this test is a record stand for the ninth wicket by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka

VVS Laxman was run out in this game providing the eighth occasion of a batsman dismissed run out after scoring a fifty against Sri Lanka. Other occasions are – DB Vengaskar for 90 at Chennai in Sep 1982, SM Gavaskar for 51 at Col-SSC in Aug 1985, DB Vengsarkar for 62 at Kandy in Sep 1985, NS Sidhu for 131 at Mohali in Nov 1997, A Kumble for 78 at Nagpur in Nov 1997, R Dravid for 53 at Delhi in Dec 2005 and R Dravid for 144 at Kanpur in Nov 2009

VVS Laxman’s run out in this test provide the 23rd occasion of an Indian batsman dismissed run out against Sri Lanka. It was the second run out dismissal for VVS Laxman against Sri Lanka, the first being for 5 runs at Chennai in Dec 2005. VVS Laxman became the third batsman to be dismissed run out on two or more occasions against Sri Lanka. Others are – R Dravid {04} and DB Vengsarkar {02}

VVS Laxman’s run out dismissal in this test represent the sixth occasion of his being dismissed run out in a test innings. He became the eighth Indian batsman to be dismissed run out on six or more occasions. Others are – R Dravid {12}, M Azharuddin {07}, SMH Kirmani {07}, A Kumble {07}, SR Tendulkar {07}, S Abid Ali {06} and J Srinath {06}

I Sharma registered his highest score in a test innings when he scored 31 not out in this test was 23 against Australia at Sydney in Jan 2008. VVS Laxman’s 69 in this test represent the 44th test half century and 59th fifty
