KC Sangakkara’s 75 in the first innings of this test represent the 100th fifty by Sri Lankan batsmen against India. DPMD Jayawardene {56} and TT Samaraweera {137*} with their fifties extended the number of fifties scored by Sri Lankan batsmen against India to 102.

KC Sangakkara earned the distinction of becoming the highest run getter at Sara Oval when he was on 8 during his knock of 75 in this game. At the end of the first innings, his run aggregate stood at 756. He went past the record of PA de Silva who had an aggregate of 688 runs.

TT Samaraweera scored 137 not out in this innings which represents his 12th test hundred. It also represents the 41st hundred by a Sri Lankan batsman against India. This knock provides TT Samaraweera’s third hundred against India. The other two are – 103* at Col-SSC in Aug 2001 and 127 at Col-SSC in Jul 2008. Thus his knock of 137 not out in this innings represents his highest individual innings against India

At the end of Sri Lanka’s first innings, MS Dhoni has effected 20 dismissals against Sri Lanka. He became the second wicket keeper to effect 20 plus dismissals in Sri Lanka-India test series. SAR Silva of Sri Lanka is the other wicket keeper to effect 22 dismissals.

At the end of Sri Lanka’s first innings, R Dravid has pouched 15 catches against Sri Lanka. M Azharuddin {27}, DPMD Jayawardene {18} and HP Tilakaratne {16} are the other fieldsmen who have pouched 15 or more catches in Sri Lanka-India test series.

The feat of A Mishra and PP Ojha provide the 23rd and 24th occasion of Indian spin bowlers conceding 100 plus runs

PP Ojha’s conceding 115 runs in this innings represent the fourth occasion of his leaking 100 plus runs in an innings against Sri Lanka. Harbhajan Singh {08} and A Kubmble {06} are the other two bowlers who have conceded 100 plus runs in an innings on more occasions than PP Ojha.

A Mishra {140} and PP Ojha {115} conceded 100 plus runs in this innings to provide the ninth occasion of two or more Indian spin bowlers leaking 100 plus runs in a test innings against Sri Lanka.

When V Sehwag scored fifty plus runs {97 not out }in the first innings of third test at Sara Oval, he achieved the distinction of scoring fifty in ten consecutive tests. He is the fourth batsman to earn the feat of scoring a fifty in ten or more consecutive test in the annals of test cricket Others are – IVA Richards of West Indies {11}, G Gambhir of India {11} and JH Edrich of England

R Dravid completed 1500 runs against Sri Lanka when he was on 22 during his knock of 23 in the first innings of this test. At the end of his innings his run aggregate against Sri Lanka stood at 1501. He became the second Indian batsman to score 1500 plus runs against Sri Lanka. Other batsman is SR Tendulkar who has an aggregate of 1940 plus runs at the end of the second day’s play in this test

R Dravid with his aggregate of 1501 runs against Sri Lanka completed 1500 runs against two specific oppositions. He has already has an aggregate of 1837 runs against Australia. R Dravid joined the select band of Indian batsmen who have an aggregate of 1500 runs against two or more specific oppositions. SM Gavaskar {1550 vs England, 2483 vs England, 2089 vs Pakistan and 2749 vs West Indies}, SR Tendulkar {2748 vs Australia, 2150 vs England and 1940 vs Sri Lanka}, DB Vengsarkar {1589 vs England and 1596 vs West Indies} and GR Viswanath {1538 vs Australia and 1880 vs England} are the four Indian batsmen who have aggregated 1500 runs against two or more specific oppositions
