KC Sangakkara completed 8000 runs of his test career when he was on 12 in Sri Lanka’s second innings at the end of the second day’s play in the third test between Sri Lanka and India at Sara Oval. He became the 21st batsman in the world to reach the milestone. He is the second Sri Lankan batsman to achieve the feat after DPMD Jayawardene.
KC Sangakkara completed 8000 runs in his 152nd innings. He reached the milestone in least number of innings amongst the batsman who have reached 8000 runs. The previous record was held by SR Tendulkar who had reached the milestone in 154 innings.
KC Sangakkara completed 8000 runs in his 91st test. He now shares the record with GS Sobers of West Indies who had also reached 8000 in 91 tests. {Sobers ended his test career with 8039 runs from 91 tests}. Both these two batsmen have reached 8000 runs in least number of tests
KC Sangakkara stands second in the list of batsmen who have taken least number of days to reach 8000 runs – R Dravid {9 years and 173 days}, KC Sangakkara {10 years and 16 days} and RT Ponting {10 years and 25 days}. KC Sangakkara improved upon RT Ponting’s record by nine days.
