India and Australia are scheduled to play two tests in October 2010. The venues are Mohali and Bangalore. Mohali test is played from 01.10.10 to 05.10.10, while Bangalore test is played from 09.10.10 to 13.10.10

Prior to the start of the series, SM Katich and MJ Clarke have an aggregate of 978 and 967 runs against India. They require 22 and 37 runs to complete 1000 runs against India. If they get them they would become the eighth and ninth batsman to total 1000 plus runs against India

ML Hayden, RT Ponting and DC Boon share the record of most hundreds by an Australian batsman against India. One more hundred to RT Ponting will be his seventh hundred and with it he would own the record of most hundreds by an Australian batsman against India

RT Ponting would be playing his 25th test against India when he appears for Australia at Bangalore, the second test of the series. He would earn the distinction of becoming the first Australian cricketer to appear in 25 tests against India

VVS Laxman would be playing his 25th test when he appears at Mohali, the first test of the series. He would become the third Indian cricketer to appear in 25 or more tests against Australia. Others are SR Tendulkar {30} and R Dravid {27}. {Note – SR Tendulkar and R Dravid’s appearances include Mohali test}

VVS Laxman would go past two other Indian cricketers – GR Viswanath and DB Vengsarkar – who have played 24 tests against Australia

R Dravid needs two more innings for his 50 innings against Australia. If he plays those two innings, he would become the second Indian batsmen to play 50 plus innings against Australia. SR Tendulkar has played 55 innings prior to the start of the series.

R Dravid has an aggregate of 1837 runs prior to the start of the series. He requires 163 runs for his 2000 run aggregate against Australia. Should he get them he would become the third Indian batsman to total 2000 plus runs against Australia. SR Tendulkar {2748} and VVS Laxman {2204} have scored 2000 plus runs prior to the start of the series.

SR Tendulkar and R Dravid have scored eleven half centuries against Australia. A half century to any of them would earn them the record of most half centuries by an Indian batsman against Australia

Prior to the start of the series, VVS Laxman has scored ten half century and one more half century to VVS Laxman with no half centuries to SR Tendulkar and R Dravid would make VVS Laxman to share the record of most half centuries with SR Tendulkar and R Dravid who have scored eleven half centuries

Prior to the start of the series RT Ponting has scored four ducks against India. One more duck to him would make him the third Australian batsman to score five or more ducks against India. B Lee {06] and SK Warne {05} are the other batsmen who have scored five or more ducks against India

SR Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh have scored four ducks prior to the start of the series. One more duck to each of them would give them five ducks which would make them the third, fourth and fifth Indian batsman to score five more ducks against Australia. AB Agarkar {08} and BS Chandrashekhar {06} are the other two Indian batsmen who have scored five or more ducks.

RT Ponting has captained Australia in nine tests against India prior to the start of this series. Mohali test would be his tenth test, he would equal the record held by RB Simpson, and SR Waugh who have captained Australia in ten tests against India RT Ponting would become the fourth captain to lead in ten or more tests against India. Others are – AR Border {11}, RB Simpson {10} and SR Waugh {10}

By leading Australia against India in the second test at Bangalore, RT Ponting would share the record with AR Border who has led Australia against India in eleven tests.

SR Tendulkar has played 29 tests against Australia prior to the start of the series. Mohali test would be his 30th test against Australia. He would become the third Indian batsman to play 30 plus tests against specific opposition. Others are – SM Gavaskar – 38 tests against England and GR Viswanath – 30 tests against England.

SR Tendulkar would become the first Indian cricketer to play 30 tests against Australia. He would become the 23rd Cricketer to play 30 or more tests against Australia. The break up of 22 cricketers read thus – 18 England cricketers and 04 West Indian cricketers.

Prior to the start of the series, V Sehwag has scored nine fifties against Australia {03 C plus 06 HC}. He needs one more fifty for his tenth fifty. He then would become the sixth Indian batsman to score ten or more fifties against Australia. Other batsmen who have score ten or more fifties prior to the start of the series are – SR Tendulkar {21}, VVS Laxman {16}, GR Viswanath {13}, R Dravid {13} and SM Gavaskar {12}.

Harbhajan Singh is on par with Kapil Dev with 79 wickets against Australia prior to the start of the series. One more wicket for Harbhajan Singh would give him his 80th wicket against Australia and he would occupy the second place among the Indian bowlers who have captured 75 plus wickets against Australia. A Kumble with 111 wickets occupies the first place.

MS Dhoni requires one more dismissal behind the stumps to complete 25 dismissals against Australia.

Prior to the start of the series, V Sehwag has an aggregate of 1400 runs against Australia. He requires 100 more runs for his 1500 runs against Australia. If he gets them, he would become the sixth Indian batsman to total 1500 plus runs against Australia. Others who have 1500 plus runs prior to the start of the series are – SR Tendulkar {2748}, VVS Laxman {2204}, R Dravid {1837} and SM Gavaskar {1550}

RT Ponting has scored 12 half centuries against India and requires one more half century to be on par with AR Border who has 13 half centuries. If he gets two half centuries he would be on par with ML Hayden who has 14 half centuries.

SM Katich and MJ Clarke have scored eight half centuries and requires two more half centuries for the 10th half century against India. If they get them they would join the company of ML Hayden {14}, AR Border {13}, RT Ponting {12} and RB Simpson {10} who have scored ten or more half centuries against India prior to the start of the series.

VVS Laxman has taken 29 catches against Australia and one more catch would give him an aggregate of 30 catches. He would then become the second Indian fieldsman to pouch 30 plus catches against Australia after R Dravid who has an aggregate of 44 catches prior to the start of the series.

RT Pontng has pouched 28 catches against India and one more catch would put him on par with ME Waugh who has 29 catches. Two more catches for Ponting would give him 30 catches and with it the Australian record for most catches by a fieldsman against India.

Prior to the start of the series, R Dravid has an aggregate of 196 catches and four more catches would make him the first fieldsman ever to pouch 200 catches in the annals of test cricket.

RT Ponting has taken 74 catches on away soil and one more catch would give his 75th catch. He then would become the fourth fieldsman who has an aggregate of 75 plus catches on away soil – R Dravid {104}, ME Waugh {84} and SP Fleming {77}

Prior to the start of the series, R Dravid and SR Tendukar have an aggregate of 5997 partnership runs. They need three more runs for 6000 partnership runs. If they get them, then they would become the third pair of batsmen in the annals of test cricket to have a total of 6000 plus runs – CG Greenidge and DL Haynes of West Indies {6482 runs} and ML Hayden and JL Langer {6081 runs}

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have 40 fifty plus runs partnerships between them and two more fifty plus partnerships would give them 42 fifty plus partnerships, Should they get them they would be on par with CG Greenidge-DL Haynes and ML Hayden-JL Langer pair who have 42 fifty plus runs partnerships

R Dravid requires 163 runs for an aggregate of 2000 runs against Australia. Should he get it, he would become the third batsman in the series and also the third Indian batsman to total 2000 plus runs against Australia. SR Tendulkar {2748} and VVS Laxman {2204} are the other two batsmen who have an aggregate of 2000 plus runs against Australia.

R Dravid wih his 2000 plus would provide the 59th occasion of a batsman totaling 2000 plus runs against a specific opposition. It would also provide the sixth occasion of an Indian batsman totaling 2000 plus runs against a specific opposition.

SR Tendulakar has an aggregate of 867 runs during the calendar year 2010. He needs 133 runs more to total 1000 runs. Should he get there he would become the first batsman to total 1000 runs during the calendar year 2010

Should he get it, he would become the only batsman in the annals of test cricket to total 1000 runs in six calendar years. The other calendar years in which he has totalled 1000 runs are – 1000 runs in 1997, 1088 in 1999, 1003 in 2001, 1392 in 2002 and 1063 in 2008, He would go past ML Hayden of Australia, BL Lara of West Indies and RT Ponting of Australia who have scored 1000 plus runs in five calendar years

Mohali test would become the first test ever to witness rival batsmen batting at number three to have an aggregate of 9000 plus runs – RT Ponting of Australia {9519} and R Dravid of India {9065}.

R Dravid would be playing his 55th test batting at number three at home when he plays the test at Mohali. He would equal the record held by RT Ponting who has played 55 home tests. Dravid’s second test at Bangalore would give record 56 appearances at home while batting at number three.

Mohali test would be the 75th test for SR Tendulkar at home. He would become the fourth cricketer to appear in 75 home tests. Others are – SR Waugh {89}, AR Border {86} and RT Ponting {79}. He would become the first cricketer from any country other than Australia to appear in 75 home tests

Mohali test would be the 68th away test {including neutral tests} for RT Ponting. He would go past ME Waugh who has played 67 away tests and occupy the fourth place among the Australians who have appeared in most away tests – SR Waugh {79}, SK Warne {76}, AR Border {70} and RT Ponting {68}
