JH Kallis overnight on 81 not out completed his hundred on the second day. It was his 39th test century and 29th hundred by a South African batsman against India. His knock represents the 51st hundred in South Africa-India test series {South Africa -29 and India -22}.

JH Kallis scored his fifth hundred against India – 121 at Kolkata in Nov 2004 : 132 at Ahmedabad in Apr 2008 : 173 at Nagpur in Feb 2010 : 201* at Centurion in Dec 2010 and 161 at Cape Town in Jan 2011. He now shares the record for most hundreds by a South African batsman against India with HM Amla who has also scored five hundreds against India to his credit

S Sreesanth captured 5 for 96 in this test providing the 273rd occasion of an Indian bowler capturing five or more wickets in an innings against various oppositions. His figures provide the 15th occasion of an Indian bowler capturing five or more wickets against South Africa.

S Sreesanth has taken five wickets haul against South Africa on two occasions – 5 for 40 at Jo’burg in Dec 2006 and 5 for 114 at Cape Town in Jan 2011. He became the fifth Indian bowler to capture five or more wickets in an innings on two or more occasions. Others are – J Srinath {04} : BKV Prasad {04} : A Kumble {03} and Harbhajan Singh {03}

S Sreesanth has captured five wickets haul on three occasions – 5 for 40 vs South Africa at Johannesburg in Dec 2006 : 5 for 75 vs Sri Lanka at Kanpur in Nov 2009 and 5 for 114 vs South Africa at Cape Town in Jan 2011.

S Sreesanth with his 5 for 114 earned the distinction of becoming the first bowler to capture a five wicket haul at Cape Town. The previous best figures were by J Srinath who had returned with figures of 4 for 33 in Jan 1993.

CA Pujara became the third India fieldsman to pouch three catches in an innings against South Africa. Others are – VVS Laxman at Mumbai in Feb 2000 and W Jaffer at Bangalore in Mar 2000.

JH Kallis with his 161 in this test took his aggregate against India to 1476 and is 24 runs shy of 1500 runs.

JH Kallis 161 in this test represents his 12th score of 150 plus runs. He became the tenth batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 12 or more 150 plus runs. JH Kallis with his 161 in this test which was his 39th test hundred is on par with RT Ponting who also has scored 39 test hundreds. Only SR Tendulkar has scored more hundreds than JH Kallis and RT Ponting. SR Tendulkar has scored 50 test hundreds.

LL Tsotsobe batted for 63 minutes in this innings providing the second occasion of a number eleven batting for 60 plus minutes against India. M Morkel batted for 76 minutes at Kolkata in Feb 2010. LL Tsotsobe’s feat provides the tenth occasion of a South African eleven batsman batting for 60 plus minutes against various oppositions

JH Kallis and LL Tsotsobe added 52 runs for the tenth wicket in this test providing the 15th occasion of South African batsmen adding 50 plus runs for the tenth wicket against various oppositions and the second occasion against India. The other occasion was 74 runs between BM McMillan and AA Donald at at Durban in Dec 1996

second occasion of an Indian wicket keeper effecting five or more dismissals in an innings against South Africa. NR Mongia had effected five dismissals {all caught} at Durban in Dec 1996

R Dravid was run out for 5 in this test providing the 13th occasion of his being dismissed run out. Batsmen who have been dismissed run out on ten or more occasions in tests are – RT Ponting of Australia {14} : R Dravid of India {10} : AR Border {12} : ML Hayden {12} : CL Hooper {10} and GS Sobers {10}

SR Tendulkar completed 8000 runs on away soil when he was on 15 during his innings. He is the only batsman to score 8000 runs on away soil in the annals of test cricket.

G Gambhir and SR Tendulkar added 114 plus runs in an unfinished stand for the third wicket in this test providing the 20th occasion of Indian batsman posting a century partnership against South Africa. This stand represents the second occasion of Indian batsman posting a century partnership for the third wicket against South Africa. The first occasion was – 249 runs between V Sehwag and SR Tendulkar at Kolkata in Feb 2010.

This stand provides the 82nd century stand for SR Tendulkar. Only R Dravid with 85 century stands is ahead of SR Tendulkar in terms of century stands in the annals of test cricket.
