Shakib Al Hasan captured five wickets in West Indies’ second innings conceding 70 runs and scored 96 not out in Bangladesh’s second innings against West Indies at St. George’s in the second test of the series. Shakib Al Hasan was leading Bangladesh for the first time as the appointed captain Mahshrafe Mortaza was injured during the first test. With this feat he became the third captain in the annals of test cricket to register a fifty and capture five wickets on his first captaincy assignment. Other two are FS Jackson of England and Imran Khan of Pakistan. FS Jackson scored 82 not out and captured five for 52 against Australia at Nottingham in May 1905, while Imran Khan of Pakistan scored 65 and captured 7 for 52 against England at Birmingham in Jul 1982. Shakib Al Hasan became the 18th captain in the annals of test cricket to register a fifty and capture five or more wickets in a test match. The following table lists out all the eighteen instances.
