The first ever Challenger series was played in 1994-95 season. The participating teams were India, India A and India B. The games were played at Calcutta and India won the final by 73 runs. The finalists were India and India A. The final was played on 31.03.05

The ensuing edition of 2009-10 which is scheduled to be played at Nagpur is the 15th edition of the Challenger Series.

Two finals were abandoned {1998-99 and 2006-07}, India has won on seven occasions, India A on three occasions and India Blue on two occasions.

The teams India, India A and India B were renamed as India Blue, India Red and India Green from the 2006-07 season.

The tournament has witnessed 25 centuries so far, with SC Ganguly’s 142 {Ind vs Ind B at Chennai on 13.02.01} as the highest individual score. The credit of registering the the first hundred fell on SV Manjrekar who scored 117 in the match between Ind A vs Ind B at Calcutta on 20.03.95. He was leading Ind A in this game.

The final of the tournament has witnessed five hundreds which are tabulated below. VVS Laxman and SS Das as opening batsmen registered hundreds in the finals of 1999-00 season at Ahmedabad on 13.03.00, which is a unique feat in the tournament finals. Dinesh Karthik’s 116 not out remains the highest individual score by batsman in the tournament finals.
