Match No 18: Bangalore Provident {Rural} vs Malnad Gladiators at Bangalore on 24.09.10: Bangalore Provident {Rural} won by six wickets

Put into bat, Malnad Gladiators batsmen did not live upto their reputation, with the exception of Sanjay Kumar and threw away the match in a jiffy. It was a continuous parade as wickets fell at regular intervals. Talented batsmen like Ganesh Satish, Kunal Kapoor, RR Bhatkal were dismissed for single digits and their total contribution to the team total was a meager 15.

It was a nightmarish start for Gladiators as they lost half the side for 27. A sixth wicket stand between KC Avinash and Sanaj Kumar worth 30 runs and 23 runs partnership for the seventh wicket between Sanjay Kumar and K Gowtham helped Gladiators to reach 102. This is the lowest completed innings total posted by a team in the second edition of Mantri-KPL. Gladiator became the second team to be dismissed all out in this edition.

It was an easy chase for Provident as they reached the target for the loss of four wickets. Amit Verma {22}, MK Manjunath {22} and AA Joshi {34 not out} batted well to take their team to a facile six wickets victory. AA Joshi’s essay came in 24 balls with two fours and two sixes. K Gowtham picked up three wickets conceding 19 runs.

Mysore Mahaarajas who batted first, after winning the toss put up a decent total of 164 for 7 in its 20 overs. Its innings was built around the useful contributions from N Bille {23}, skipper CJ William {23} and S Manager {59}, S Manager’s 59 came in just 30 balls and contained three fours and five sixes. He added 67 runs for the fifth wicket in the company of SP Manjunath in 27 balls was the main stay of Mysore’s innings.

JP Shetty {3 for 40} and B Rajashekhar {3 for 28} were amongst the wickets for Bijapur Bulls

In its chase, Bulls lost their both opening batsman with just one run on the board, but a third wicket stand worth 116 runs between JP Shetty and DT Patil paved the way for Bulls’ victory. It was so near but yet not so far for Malnad Gladiators. Victors and the vanquished were separated by two runs.

Chasing a total of 136 set by Mangalore United fell short of the target by two runs in a thrilling finish. It was a heart breaking loss for Gladiators. Sanjay Kumar and N Hegde’s last over fireworks was not enough for Gladiators. They required 25 runs for a win of the last over. Sanjay Kumar deposited the first two deliveries over the boundary ropes of the first two deliveries and was caught in the deep when he repeated the stroke of the third delivery. N Hegde scored two and four of the next two deliveries. Of the last ball he hit a boundary when seven were neeed for a win and six for a tie. The last ball four handed a defeat by two runs.

Put into bat Mangalore United lost its two wickets with a single digit on the board, but its innings was propped up by a 49 runs stand for the third wicket between Nidhuvan Kumar and R Jonathan. 35 runs partnership between V Chavan and AF Pasha for the seventh wicket boosted Mangalore United’s total to 135. Mangalore United became the first team to be dismissed all out in this edition of KPL

Nidhvan Kumar {24}, R Jonathan {28}, V Chavan {29} and AF Pasha {27} were the four batsmen who reached double figures and their contribution was the mainstay of Mangalore’s innings. RR Bhatkal picked up 3 for 21 for Gladiators and was well supported by K Gowtham who had figures of 2 for 27

MA Agarwal’s 100 is the first hundred of this edition and wrested B Chipli’s 75 for Mangalore United against Bangalore Brigadiers at Bangalore on 22.09.10. MA Agarwal became the second batsman to score a hundred in KPL games. MK Pandey of Belgavi Panthers had made 112 not out against Mangalore United at Bangalore on 14.09.09 in the first edition of KPL.

Davanagere’s total was built around MA Agarwal {100}, M Nidesh {23} and V Bharat Kumar {32}, There were substantial partnerships in the innings – 69 runs for the second wicket between MA Agarwal and YKT Goud, 53 runs partnership between MA Agarwal and M Nidesh and 39 runs unfinished stand for the fifth wicket between V Bharat Kumar and SB Joshi – which was the mainstay of Davanagere’s innings

MA Agarwal was at the crease for 77 minutes for his 100 which came in 62 balls. His essay contained 11 boundaries and four sixes. M Nidesh’s 23 came in 29 balls with two fours in a stay of 33 minutes. V Bharat Kumar’s cameo knock of 32 came in just seven balls with two fours and four sixes.

S Dhananjaya who was carted all over the ground by Davanagere batsmen leaked 55 runs in his four overs for his two wickets and was the most successful bowler for Belgavi Panthers. S Dhananjya earned the dubious distinction of becoming the first bowler to concede fifty runs in an innings in this edition of the tournament. He became the third bowler to concede 50 plus runs in the tournament. The other two bowlers are – ST Sharat {55} of Diamonds vs Brigadiers at Bangalore on 21.09.09 and STR Binny {51} of Bulls vs Brigadiers at Mysore on 19.09.09. Thus Dhananjaya became the most expensive bowler in the tournament in terms of runs conceded.

Belgavi Panthers undeterred by the huge total started in a confident note, with their inform openers – skipper J Arun Kumar and KS Ponnappa – adding 70 runs for the first wicket in 7.1 overs. KS Ponnappa left at 70 and J Arun Kumar followed him at 112. As long the skipper was at the crease, Panthers had a chance to wrap up the game. His departure at a crucial stage gave an advantage to Diamonds. Panthers lost wickets at regular intervals. With no partnerships coming forth in the rest of their innings, they reached a total of 171 for 9 leaving Diamond victors by 20 runs.

J Arunkumar’s 57 which was in a losing cause was made in 55 minutes in 34 balls and contained six hits to the fence and three over it.

P Patil was the most successful bowler for Diamond with 3 for 27. BN Bharat {2 for 39} and DC Rajesh {2 for 33} were the other bowlers who were amongst the wickets

Mantri-KPL 2010: Hubli games shifted to Bangalore

We are furnishing a Press release issued by KSCA, Bangalore regarding the cancellation of KPL 2010 mathces at Hubli and shifting them to Bangalore

Due to prevailing unavoidable circumstances, in consultation with all the associates of the Mantri KPL 2010, decided to cancel the matches scheduled at Hubli from 25th to 27th September 2010.

Now all the remaining matches will be played at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. There will be no matches played on 24th and 25th September 2010.

The rescheduled matches from 26th to 29th September are as follows:
