The Karnataka Premier League (KPL) is an Indian Twenty20 cricket league established by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in August 2009 and modeled after the Indian Premier League (IPL). As of August 2018, there are seven teams competing in the league.

The first title sponsor of the KPL was Mantri Developers, who paid ₹110 million (US$1.6 million) for 5 years[1]. Then KPL was inactive in 2011, 2012 and 2013. After a gap of 3 years, the third edition of Karnataka Premier League (KPL) commenced in Mysore on 28 August (Thursday). In 2014, Karbonn Mobiles won a 3-year title sponsorship for the KPL.

Fourth Edition {2015}, Fifth Edition  {2016} and Sixth Edition {2017} have been conducted successfully. Seventh Edition {2018} has been scheduled to take place between 15 Aug 2018 and 05 Sep 2018

Belagavi  Panthers and Bijapur Bulls clash for KPL 2017 title on 24.09.17 at Hubballi. It is interesting to note  that Belagavi Panthers  is one of the teams that clashed in the finals of KPL on three occasions including the current one. They were the finalists in the inaugural edition of 2009 and in 2014

Bijapur Bulls is in the fray for the second  occasion having emerged winners  in 2015 edition. The following table lists the finalists in each edition of  KPL

Second Semi Final – Bijapur Bulls Vs Namma Shivamogga at Hubballi on Sept 22, 2017 – Bijpur Bulls won by four wickets with two balls to spare

Three cricketers – R Jonathan, M Nidesh and AA Joshi – were making their 45th appearance in KPL in this game. They occupy the second place jointly in the list of cricketers who have played most games in KPL. The first place is occupied by Amit Verma who has played 45 games in KPL.

R Jonathan’s run aggregate in KPL read 967 at the end of this game. He now stands second in the list of batsmen who have scored most runs in KPL. The first place is occupied by MA Agarwal who has scored 1419 runs. MA Agarwal and R Jonathan are the only two batsmen who have aggregated 950 plus runs in KPL. R Jonathan went past B Chipli who has an aggregate of 949 runs on his way to second place. {stats as at the end of Namma Shivamogga innings}

B Chipli joined MA Agarwal and R Jonathan as the third batsman to total 950 plus runs. He made 10 in Bijapur Bulls innings to take  his aggregate in KPL to 959  runs.

B Akhil’s boundary sixes aggregate in KPL read 42. He occupies the third place in the list of batsmen who have scored most sixes in KPL. Others are – MA Agarwal {52} and Mohd Taha {49}.

M Nidish became the seventh batsman in KPL to score 36 or more boundary sixes. The complete list read thus. B Chipli and R Jonthan joined the list when they scored two and one boundary six in this match. B Chipli became the  fourth batsman to score 40 plus boundary sixes in KPL.

First Semi final  – Hubli-T Vs Belagavi Panthers at Hubballi on 20 Sep 17 – Belgavi Panthers won by 14 runs  under VJD Method.

 

Due to rain interference, the game could not start at the scheduled time of  7.00 PM. It started at 8.15 PM with a delay of 75  minutes. There were no rescheduled overs. It was a 20 overs a side game

 

S Hoover scored 67 in this game to provide his second fifty in KPL. He had scored his first fifty – 62 against Bellary Tuskers at Mysuru on 12.09.17. Thus his 67 in this game provides his highest score in KPL.

 

R Vinay Kumar captured the wicket of S Hoover in this game  which gave  him the 47th wicket in KPL. He stands second in the list of bowlers who have captured most wickets in  KPL.
