DA Warner exults after scoring his 18th test century at Sydney. He made 113 on the first day

DA Warner {113} and MD Renshaw {167 not out} scored centuries on the first day of the Sydney test between Australia and Pakistan to provide the 21st occasion of both Australian openers scoring centuries in a test. DA Warner of Australia became the fifth batsman in the  annals of test cricket to score a century before Lunch on the first day of the test. The complete list of batsman who have accomplished the feat is listed below.

It is note that he became the fourth Australian batsman to accomplish the feat and also the first batsman to perform the feat against Pakistan.  He is also the first  Australian batsman to perform the feat on home soil, while the other three Australian batsmen’s feat have come on away soil. He is also the second batsman to perform the feat on home soil after Majid Khan of Pakistan. DA Warner’s feat has come after 40 seasons. Majid Khan’s feat has come against New Zealand at Karachi in 1976-77.

The Kingston test between West Indies and England in Feb 1968 has a special significance in this category of statistics. Azhar Ali joined the elite list of batsmen who have scored double hundreds on two occasions in a calendar year. He had scored 302 not out against West Indies at Dubai-DSC in Oct 2016 and 205 not out against Australia in the ongoing test at Melbourne in Dec 2016. His feat provides the 29th occasion of a batsman scoring two or more double hundreds in a calendar year. Azhar Ali became the first Pakistan batsman to accomplish such a feat
