It also provides the 134th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership in an innings against England. It provides the 112th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership in an innings for the third wicket against all the oppositions. It also provides the 23rd occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership in an innings for the third wicket against England.

RA Jadeja’s 53 in India’s second innings fetched him an aggregate of 516 runs in this series. It provides the 33rd occasion of an Indian batsman to score 500 plus runs in a series. It also provides the eleventh occasion of an Indian batsman to score 500 plus runs in a series against England.

This series witnessed three Indian batsmen scoring 500 plus runs. Shubman Gill {754}, RA Jadeja {516} and KL Rahul {532} providing the first instance of three batsmen scoring 500 plus runs in a series against England. RA Jadeja scored six fifties in this series to provide the 42nd occasion of a batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the 13th occasion of a batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series against England.

It also provides the seventh occasion of a batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series. It also provides the first occasion of an Indian batsman scoring six or more fifties in a series against England.

India amassed 3809 runs in this series became the second team to score 3800 plus runs in five or six test series. Australia has scored 3877 runs in a six test series against England in 1989. India’s 3809 runs in this series represent the highest run aggregate in a five test series. The previous best was England’s 3757 runs against Australia in a five test series of 1928-29.

JC Tongue captured five for 125 in India’s second innings to provide the 74th occasion of an England bowler capturing five or more wickets against India. It also provides 41st occasion of an England bowler capturing five or more wickets against India on home soil.

AAP Atkinson and JC Tongue conceded 127 and 125 runs respectively in India’s second innings to provide the 115th and 116th occasion of England bowlers conceding 100 plus runs in an innings against India. YBK Jaiswal scored 118 in India’s second innings to provide the 177th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a century in an innings against England. It also provides the 42nd occasion of an Indian opening batsman scoring a century in an innings against England

YBK Jaiswal’s 118 in India’s second innings represent his fourth century against England as an opening batsman. He became the fourth Indian opening batsman to score four or more centuries against England. Others are – KL Rahul {05}, SM Gavaskar {04} and RG Sharma {04}. He also became the 14th Indian batsman to score four or more centuries in an innings against England.

It also provides the 86th and 87th occasion of England batsman scoring centuries in an innings against India on home soil. It also represents the 14th and 15th occasion of an England batsman scoring centuries in an innings against India at The Oval.

JE Root’s 105 in England’s second innings represents his third century against India at The Oval. He now holds the record of scoring most centuries by an England batsman against India at The Oval. He went past KP Pietersen who had scored two centuries against India at The Oval.

HC Brook was dismissed for 111 in England’s second innings providing the 64th occasion of a batsman dismissed for a “Nelson” in a test innings in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the ninth occasion of a batsman dismissed for a “Nelson” in a test innings against India in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the twelfth occasion of an England batsman dismissed for a “Nelson” in a test innings. It also provides the first occasion of an England batsman dismissed for a “Nelson” in a test innings against India.

JE Root-HC Brook added 195 runs for the fourth wicket in England’s second innings to provide the 173rd occasion of England batsmen posting a three figure partnership in an innings against India. It also provides the 103rd occasion of England batsmen posting a three figure partnership in an innings against India on home soil.

It also provides the 38th occasion of England batsmen posting a three figure partnership in an innings for the fourth wicket against India. It also provides the 23rd occasion of England batsmen posting a three figure partnership in an innings for the fourth wicket against India on home soil.

YBK Jaiswal of India scored 118 in the third innings of this test and BM Duckett scored 54 in the fourth innings of this test to provide the 107th occasion of rival opening batsmen scoring fifties in the third and fourth innings of a test in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the fourth such occasion in England-India test series.

It is interesting to note that JE Root is one of the batsman in these two occasions. It is also interesting to note that these two tests – Birmingham and The Oval – have the start dates in July.
