HDRL Thirimanne emulated the feat of Yajurvindra Singh in taking five catches against England in a test innings after a gap of 44 years.

HDRL Thiriamanne’s feat is unique in the annals of test cricket as he took of five catches of the same bowler L Embuldeniya who returned with figures of 7 for 137 in England’s first innings and the second innings of the test.

TM Paine completed 1500 runs of his test career when he was on 44 during his knock of 50 in Australia’s first innings. At the end of his innings, his run aggregate read 1506. TD Paine became the second Australian captain to be dismissed for an exact 50 in a test innings against India after KJ Hughes. KJ Hughes was dismissed for an exact 50 at Kanpur in Oct 1979.

It also provides the ninth occasion of a captain dismissed for an exact 50 in a test innings against India.
