PL Harris became Harbhajan Singh’s 50th South African victim when he was caught by CA Pujara for zero. At the end of the test, his tally of wickets stood at 53. He is the third Indian bowler to capture 50 plus wickets against South Africa. Others are – A Kumble {84} and J Srinath {64}

Zaheer Khan’s tally of wickets against South Africa at the end of this test stood at 29. He became the sixth Indian bowler to capture 25 or more wickets against South Africa. Others are – A Kumble {84} : J Srinath {64} : Harbhajan Singh {53} : S Sreesanth {26} and BKV Prasad {25}.

Zaheer Khan and S Sreesanth reached the land mark of capturing 25 wickets in this test.

South Africa were all out for 131 in its first innings providing the fourth occasion of its being all out for a total less than 150 runs against India. The other three occasions are – 84 at Johannesburg in Dec 2006 : 105 at Ahmedabad in Nov 1996 and 121 at Kanpur in Apr 2008.

JH Kallis was dismissed run out for 10 in this test providing the 13th occasion of a South African batsman run out in a test innings against India. JH Kallis was run out for the first occasion against India. JH Kallis became the first South African batsman to be dismissed run out against India in a test at Durban.

JH Kallis’ run out in this test represents his sixth run out of his test career. The other five occasions are – for 7 vs Australia at Port Elizabeth in Mar 1997 : for 16 vs Australia at Sydney in Jan 1998 : for 99 vs Australia at Melbourne in Dec 2001 : for 66 vs England at The Oval in Sep 2003 and for 66 vs England at Cape Town in Jan 2005

JH Kallis became the third South African batsman to be dismissed on six or more occasions. The other two are – JHB Waite {07} and DJ McGlew {06}

AB de Villiers collected his second duck of his test career when he was dismissed without scoring in the first innings. The other occasion was against Bangladesh at Centurion in Nov 2008.

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar pair has a tatal partnership runs of 6352 runs at the end of this test. They have paired in 129 innings. They have 19 three figure partnerships and 24 half century partnerships. They have six unfinished partnerships. Their 6352 runs stands next only to 6482 runs between CG Greenidge and DL Haynes who have partnered in 148 innings. MV Boucher with his nine dismissals in this test emulated DJ Richardson who also had accounted for nine dismissals against India at Port Elizabeth in Dec 1992 to become the second South African wicket keeper to effect nine dismissals in a test against India.

VVS Laxman scored 96 in the second innings of this test to provide the fourth occasion of an Indian batsman scoring ninety against South Africa. Others are – 97 by SR Tendulkar at Mumbai in Feb 2000 : 96 by G Gambhir at Kanpur in Nov 2004 and 90 by MS Dhoni at Centurion in Dec 2010.

VVS Laxman’s 96 in this test represent his fourth ninety in a test innings. Other occasions are – 95 vs Australia at Kolkata in Mar 1998 : 90 vs Pakistan at Faisalabad in Jan 2006 and 91 vs New Zealand at Ahmedabad in Nov 2010.

With 267 wickets with the leather at the end of this test and 1022 runs with the willow. Zaheer Khan became the eighth Indian cricketer to score 1000 runs and capture 100 plus wickets in tests. Zaheer Khan with 1022 runs and 267 wickets became the 19th cricketer in the annals of test cricket to score 1000 runs and capture 250 plus wickets : 28th cricketer to score 1000 plus runs and capture 200 plus wickets and 53rd cricketer to score 1000 plus runs and capture 100 plus wickets.

VVS Laxman and Zaheer Khan added 70 runs for th
e eighth wicket in India’s second innings. The seventh wicket fell at 148 and the eighth wicket fell at 218. By an astonishing coincidence, the same pair – VVS Laxman and Zaheer Khan – has added the same number of runs – 70 runs – at Johannesburg in Dec 2006 in India’s second innings. In this innings also the seventh wicket fell at 148 and the eighth wicket fell at 218 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

South Africa was a set a target of 303 runs to win this test. They have won only twice chasing a total of 300 plus runs in the fourth innings – They won against Australia by six wickets at Perth in Dec 2008 – set a target of 413, they scored 414 for four and they won against Australia by five wickets at Durban in Mar 2002 – set a target of 339, they scored 340 for five. This is the first occasion of South Africa chasing a total of 300 plus runs in the fourth innings of a test against India {303 runs}

L Tsotsobe was dismissed run out in this test providing the 14th occasion a South African batsman dismissed run out against India. He became the first South African batsman to be dismissed run out without scoring.

Zaheer Khan’s tally of wickets stood at 267 at the end of this test. He now stands in the fourth position amongst the Indian bowlers who have taken most wickets in tests. The first three are – A Kumble {619} : N Kapil Dev {434} and Harbhajan Singh {386}. Zaheer Khan went past BS Bedi’s 266 wickets to occupy the fourth position.

India’s win in this by 87 runs provide its seventh win against South Africa. Karnataka maintained its streak of not losing a match by for the sixth time in succession in 2010/11 when it gained first innings lead and drew the match against Uttar Pradesh at Kanpur which ended on 18th December 2010. With the result being an expected draw after UP managed to score 319, Karnataka’s top players were back to form for the first time, first six batsmen scoring fifties .

Amit Verma continued his batting form to score half centuries in each innings (54 & 89) taking his aggregate of half centuries to six besides three centuries in 17 matches. He also completed 1000 run mark during his score of 89 in the second innings when he was on 31. He reached the milestone in the 26th innings of his 17th Ranji Trophy match. At the end of this match his aggregate stood at 1058 runs at an average of 46.00.

R Vinaykumar scored 51 which was his second consecutive fifty. He had scored 50 not out in the previous match against Baroda at Mysore. He has now a tally of four half centuries in 48 Ranji Trophy matches. With 51 in this match, he equaled his highest individual score – an identical score had been made by him against Punjab in the quarter final at Mysore in 2009/10.

Ganesh Satish scored his first century of this season when he made an unbeaten 100 in the second innings. His highest score in 2010/11 prior to this match was 76 against Baroda at Mysore. Ganesh Satish also completed 1000 runs in Ranji Trophy when he reached 34 during his knock of 100 not out in this match. He has played 28 innings and 16 Ranji Trophy matches. At the end of this match his aggregate stood at 1066 runs at an average of 44.41 with three centuries and five half centuries.

Amit Verma and Ganesh Satish became the 41st and 42nd players for Karnataka to complete 1000 or more runs in Ranji Trophy. The list is headed by Brijesh Patel who tops the list with 7126 runs in 104 matches.

CM Gautam – who has become the constant savior for Karnataka on many occasions, rescued Karnataka again with a splendid 115 – his fifth century and second in this season. He added 126 runs for the ninth wicket with Udit Patel. CM Gautam has now aggregated 392 runs in five matches this season, at an average of 56.00. Gautam’s tally at the end of this match is 909 runs in 16 matches at 43.28.

Udit Patel scored his maiden half century (72) in his 19th Ranji Trophy match and 23rd innings. His previous highest was 35 against Saurashtra at Rajkot in 2006/07.

RV Uthappa coried 67 in the second innings which was his 15th half century and 24th fifty in 48 matches. KB Pawan socred 50 in this game which was his ninth half century and 13th fifty in 29 Ranji Trophy matches. He has an aggregate of 1683 runs from 29 Ranji Trophy matches.

MK Pandey scored his second half century of the season, in addition to his two centuries. He has now accumulated 1631 runs in 20 matches at 52.62. Fifty by Pandey is his 8th half century besides six centuries.

Stuart Binny hit an unbeaten 127 in the second innings. 127 by Binny is his second century besides three half centuries in 23 matches. He had scored his maiden century (109) in the match against Himachal Pradesh at Dharmasala this season. Binny is also on the threshold of a landmark of 1000 runs in Ranji Trophy needing just 40 runs.

SR Waugh’s four century stands for the seventh wicket are – 147 with MG Hughes vs England at Leeds in Jun 1989 : 142* with SK Warne vs New Zealand at Brisbane in Dec 1993 : 117 with PR Reifell vs Sri Lanka at Adelaide in Jan 1996 and 108 with SK Warne vs India at Adelaide in Dec 1999.

PL Harris captured his 100th wicket when he captured the wicket of V Sehwag in India’s second innings. At the end of this test he has a tally of 101 wickets. He became the fourteenth South African bowler to capture 100 plus test wickets.
