AN Cook of England with a run aggregate of 2104 runs owns the record for most runs by an England batsman against India, while SR Tendulkar of India with an aggregate of 2535 runs owns the record by an Indian batsman against England. SR Tendulkar’s 2535 runs is a series record for most runs by a batsman in England-India test series. He remains  the only batsman to aggregate 2500 plus runs in the series

SR Tendulkar and SM Gavaskar jointly own the Indian record for most fifties against England. Both the batsmen have scored 20 fifties. AN Cook of England with  14 fifties  to  his credit owns the record for most fifties by an England batsman against India

SR Tendulkar with six centuries to  his credit holds the record for most centuries by an Indian batsman against  England. AN Cook and KP Pietersen with six centuries to their credit share the record for most centuries by an England batsman against India.

SM Gavaksar with sixteen half centuries to his credit holds the record for most half centuries by an Indian batsman against  England. KF Barrington with nine half centuries to his credit owns the record for most half centuries by an England batsman against India.

MS Dhoni {842} and AN Cook {1229} own the record for most runs by an Indian captain and England captain in the series. MS Dhoni {09} and AN Cook {08} own the record for most fifties by an Indian captain and England captain in the series

BK Kunderan’s 192 at Chennai in Jan 1964 and RC Russel’s 124 at Lord’s in Jun 96 are the highest  individual scores by a Indian wicketkeeper batsman and England wicket  keeper batsman in the series. There are five occasions of Indian wikcet keeper batsman scoring centuries against England and three occasion of England wicket keeper batsman scoring centuries against India.

There are 61 occasions of England bowlers capturing five or more wickets in an innings against India which includes one eight wicket haul and six seven wicket hauls. Indian bowlers have captured five or more wickets in an innings  against England on 68 occasions  which  includes two occasion of eight  wicket hauls  and four occasions  of seven wicket hauls

FS Truemans’s 8 for 31 at Manchester  in Jul 1952  represents  the  best innings bowling effort by an Indian bowler against England qnd MH Mankad’s 8 for 55 at Chennai in Feb 1952 represents  the  best innings bowling effort by an Indian bowler against England

Seven Indian bowlers have captured ten or more wickets in match against England, while Eight England bowlers have  captured ten or more wickets in a match against India. MH Mankad’s 12 for 109 at Chennai  in  Feb 1952 represent the best match figures  by an Indian bowler against England, while IT Botham’s 13 for 106 at Mumbai-WS represent the best match figures by an England bowler against India.

Seven Indian bowlers have captured ten or more wickets in match against England, while Eight England bowlers have  captured ten or more wickets in a match against India. MH Mankad’s 12 for 109 at Chennai  in  Feb 1952 represent the best match figures  by an Indian bowler against England, while IT Botham’s 13 for 106 at Mumbai-WS represent the best match figures by an England bowler against India.

JM Anderson holds the record for most wickets by an England bowler against India with 86 wickets to his credit, while BS Chandrashekhar with 95 wickets to his credit holds the record for most wickets by an Indian bowler against England.  Six England bowlers have  captured 50 plus  wickets  against India, while five Indian bowlers have captured 50 plus wickets against England.

APE Knott with 54 dismissals to his credit owns the record for most dismissals by an England wicket keeper against India, while MS Dhoni  with 67 dismissals to his credit  owns the record for  most dismissals  by an Indian wicket keeper against England.

There are seven occasions of England wicket keepers effecting five or more dismissals in an innings against India. RW Taylor with seven dismissals at Mumbai in Feb 1980 holds the record for most dismissals in an innings by an England wicket keeper against India. BK Kunderan is the only Indian wicket keeper to effect five dismissals in an  innings against England. He effected five dismissals in an innings at Mumbai-BS in Nov 1961

RW Taylor pf England with ten dismissals at Mumbai-WS in Feb 1980  and KS More of India with seven dismissals at Mumbai-WS in Feb 1993 own the records for most dismissals by a wicket keeper  in a match for their respective teams in the test series

AN Cook of England with 25 catches to his credit holds the record for most catches by an England fieldsman against India, while SM Gavaskar with 35 catches to his credit holds the record for most catches by an Indian fieldsman against England.

Yajurvindra Singh is the only Indian fieldsman to pouch five catches in an innings against England, while no England fieldman has pouched five catches in an innings against India. Yajurvindra Singh has taken five catches in an innings against India at Bengaluru in Jan 1977. GA Hick has pouched four catches at  Kolkata in Jan 1983 and holds the  record for most catches by an England fieldsman against India.

England batsmen have posted 150 three figure partnerships against India which include two triple-century partnerships and 14 double century partnerships. 350 runs partnership for the third wicket between IR Bell and KP Pietersen represent the highest partnership by England batsmen against India

Indian batsmen have posted 103 three figure partnerships against England which include two triple-century partnerships and 13 double century partnerships. 316 runs partnership for the third wicket between GR Viswanath and Yahspal Sharma represent the highest partnership by Indian batsmen against England

 

HMRKB Herath’s six for 98 in the just concluded test against South Africa at Col-SSC represents his  34th five wicket haul in an innings.
