VD Philander returned with figures of 4 for 27 and joined the exclusive club of South African bowlers who have captured 150 plus test wickets

VD Philander became the eighth South African bowler to capture 150 plus test wickets.  He returned with 4 for  in Sri Lanka’s first innings in the ongoing test against Sri Lanka. At the end of the Sri Lankan first innings, his wicket aggregate read 152. The eight bowler list is furnished below

VD Philander had made his test debut under the captaincy of GC Smith against Australia at Cape Town in November 2011. He returned with match figures of 8 for 78 {3 for 63 and 5 for 15}. He had earned the distinction of becoming the 20th South African bowler to capture five or more wickets in an innings on test debut. He had figures of 7.0-3-15-5 in the second innings, which represents the best bowling effort on test debut by a South African bowler even today. His 150th victim was RAS Lakmal whom he had caught by HM Amla for a duck.

He is also the second batsman to perform the feat on home soil after Majid Khan of Pakistan. DA Warner’s feat has come after 40 seasons. Majid Khan’s feat has come against New Zealand at Karachi in 1976-77.

BJ Hodge scored 55 in the game between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers at Blundstone Arena, Hobart on 02.01.17. He was representing Adelaide Strikers in this game.
