SR Tendulkar registered his 50^th test hundred on the fourth day of the ongoing first test at Centurion against South Africa. He reached the milestone when he took his score from 99 to 100 when he drove DW Steyn towards cover and extra cover for a single {third delivery of the 115^th over of the innings}. The first such occasion was witnessed at Bloemfontein in Nov 2001. In this test, in South Africa’s first innings the first wicket realized 189 runs between G Kirsten and HH Gibbs, 130 runs were added for the third wicket between JH Kallis and ND McKenzie and 121 runs were added for the seventh wicket between L Klusener and MV Boucher.

AB de Villiers scored 100 of his 129 in 75 balls providing the eleventh occasion of a batsman scoring the first hundred of their innings in 76 or less than 76 deliveries in the annals of test cricket {where number of balls are known} He is the first South African batsman to perform the feat and thus holds the record for fastest test hundred by a South African in terms of balls faced.

AB de Villiers’s 129 in this test represents his 12^th test hundred and 35^th fifty.

JD Unadkat returned with figures of none for 101 in this test providing the 19^th occasion of a bowler conceding 100 plus runs without a wicket on his debut. He is the third Indian bowler to suffer such an ignominy. G Gambhir and V Sehwag added 137 runs for the first wicket in the second innings providing the 18^th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership against South Africa. This stand provides the fourth occasion of a three figure partnership for the first wicket by Indian batsmen against South Africa.
