England inserted the opposition in this game providing the 36th occasion of a team inserting the opposition in ICC Championship Trophy games. As far as England is concerned, it is the second such occasion in the tournament. The first occasion was against Australia at Birmingham on 21.09.04. England had won this game by six wickets. This game was the first semi finals of the 2004 edition played in England.

SHT Kandamby’s run for 53 in this game provide the 14th occasion of a batsman dismissed run out after registering a fifty in the tournament. He became the first Sri Lankan batsman to be run out after scoring a fifty in the tournament.

SHT Kandamby’s 53 and AD Mathews’s 52 in this game provide the 19th and 20th occasion of Sri Lankan batsmen registering fifties in the tournament. These two fifties remain the two fifties scored by Sri Lankan batsmen against England in the tournament.

JM Anderson’s figures of 9.3-2-20-3 in this game represent the 24th occasion of a bowler capturing three or more wickets conceding 20 and less than 20 runs in the tournament. He is the second England bowler after A Flintoff who had figures of 6.0-1-11-3 against Zimbabwe at Birmingham on 10.09.04 to perform such a feat.

EJG Morgan’s 63 not out in this game provide the 22nd occasion of an England batsman registering fifty in the tournament. He became the first batsman to register a fifty against Sri Lanka in the tournament.

EJG Morgan registered 63 not out on his first appearance in the tournament. He earned the distinction of becoming the 24th batsman to register a fifty on first appearance in the tournament. New Zealand is the only team to win a game when it has been dismissed all out. It had won its game against South Africa at Mumbai {BS} on 16.10.06 by 87 runs. Batting first, New Zealand were all out for 195 and then dismissed South Africa for 108.
