RK Chauhan’s figures of 78.0-8-276-1 at Col-RPS in Aug 97 represent the most expensive figures in terms of runs conceded by an Indian bowler against Sri Lanka. A Kumble also returned with figures of 72.0-7-223-1 in the same game to become the second Indian bowler to concede 200 plus runs in an innings against Sri Lanka.

As many as 35 three figure partnerships have been posted for various wickets by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka. 272 runs partnership for the sixth wicket between M Azharuddin and N Kapil Dev at Kanpur in Dec 86 remain the highest three figure partnership by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka.

Apart from the 272 plus runs partnership for the sixth wicket between M Azharuddin and N Kapil Dev at Kanpur in Dec 86, there are three other 200 plus run stands posted by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka. They are – 256 runs for the fourth wicket between SC Ganguly and SR Tendulkar at Mumbai in Dec 97, 232 runs for second wicket between S Ramesh and R Dravid at Col-SSC in Feb 99 and 221 runs for the fourth wicket between SR Tendulkar and M Azharuddin at Col-RPS in Aug 97.

There are 14 occasions of Indian batsmen posting 150 plus runs partnerships for various wickets against Sri Lanka.

As many as 27 three figure partnerships have been posted for various wickets by Sri Lankan batsmen against India. 576 runs partnership between ST Jayasuriya and RS Mahanama for the second wicket at Col-RPS in Aug 97 remain the highest three figure partnership by Sri Lankan batsmen against India. This partnership also represent the world record partnership for the second wicket in the annals of test cricket.

Apart from the 576 runs partnership between ST Jayasuriya and RS Mahanama for the second wicket at Col-RPS in Aug 97, there are two more three figure partnerships of 200 plus runs posted by Sri Lankan batsmen against India. They are – 218 runs partnership for the third wicket between ST Jayasuriya and PA de Silva at Col-SSC in Aug 97 and 216 runs partnership between RL Dias and LRD Mendis at Kandy in Sep 85.

There are eight occasions of Sri Lankan batsmen posting 150 plus runs partnership for various wickets against India

M Azharuddin of India {27}, HP Tilakaratne of Sri Lanka {16}, A Kumble of India {13}, M Jayawardene {12} and MS Atapattu {10} are the fieldsmen who have pouched ten or more catches in India-Sri Lanka test series.

R Dravid of India with nine catches, M Muralithran with eight catches and SR Tendulkar with eight catches prior to the start of this series are set to join this elite list of fieldsmen who have pouched ten or more catches.

SAR Silva of Sri Lanka {22}, NR Mongia of India {18}, KC Sangakkara of Sri Lanka {14}, S Viswanath of India {11} and KS More of India {11} are the wicket keepers who have effected ten or more dismissals in India-Sri Lanka test series.

SAR Silva of Sri Lanka remains the only wicket keeper to effect five or more dismissals in an innings on two occasions in the India-Sri Lanka test series. He effected six dismissals in the first innings at Col-SSC in Aug 85 and five dismissals in the second innings at Col-PSS in Sep 85. SAR Silva’s feat came in consecutive tests. S Viswanth with four dismissals in the first innings at Kandy in Sep 85 holds the Indian record for most dismissals in a match against Sri Lanka

SAR Silva of Sri Lanka remains the only wicket keeper to effect nine dismissals in a match on two occasions in the India-Sri Lanka test series. He effected nine dismissals at Col-SSC in Aug 85 and nine dismissals at Col-PSS in Sep 85. SAR Silva’s feat came in consecutive tests. S Viswanth with six dismissals at Kandy in Sep 85 holds the Indian record for most dismissals in an innings against Sri Lanka

SAR Silva scored 111 and effected nine dismissals {08 ct plus 01 st} at Col-PSS in Sep 85 to earn the distinction of becoming the only wicket keeper in the annals of test cricket to score a hundred and effect nine dismissals.

A Ranatunga of Sri Lanka {20}, PA de Silva of Sri Lanka {19}, SR Tendulkar of India {19}, A Kumble of India {18}, M Muralitharan of Sri Lanka {18} and M Azharuddin of India {17} are the cricketers who have played 15 or more tests in India-Sri Lanka test series.

SR Tendulkar needs one more test appearance to equal the record of most test appearances in the series held by A Ranatunga of Sri Lanka who has played 20 tests.

R Dravid with 14 test appearances prior to the start of the series, require one more test appearance to join the elite list of cricketers who have played 15 or more tests in the series.

Both SR Tendulkar and R Dravid would reach the respective land marks when they appear in the first test at Ahmedabad in the ensuing test series.
