Kapil Dev’s 9 for 83 at Gujarat Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad against West Indies in Nov 1983 has the following accreditations. His figures represent the best innings bowling figures by a a captain in the annals of test cricket. It also represents the best innings bowling figures by a bowler and also by a captain in a losing cause as India lost this test by 138 runs. What is more interesting is Kapil Dev took his 9 for 83 at this venue which was hosting its first ever test match

Mulawantrai Himmatlal Mankad {known popularly as “Vinoo Mankad} has the unique distinction of being the only cricketer in the annals of test cricket to score two double hundreds in separate tests and also concede 200 plus runs in two separate test innings.

He scored 223 runs in the first innings against New Zealand at Brabourne Stadium, Bombay in Dec 1955 and followed it up with 231 in the first innings against the same opposition at Nehru Stadium, Madras.

He conceded 202 runs in the first innings against West Indies at Brabourne Stadium, Bombay in Dec 1948 and conceded 228 runs in the second innings against the same opposition at Kingston in Mar 1953

His batting feat of scoring double hundreds in two test innings was against the same opposition – New Zealand. His bowling feat of conceding 200 plus runs on two occasions was against the same opposition – West Indies

It is interesting to note that the three teams taking part in the Zimbabwe Triangular Series have new captains. Zimbabwe will be led by Eton Chigumbara {15th captain to lead Zimbabwe in one dayers}, India will be led by Suresh Raina {20th captain to lead India in one day games} and Sri Lanka will be led by Tilakaratne Dilshan {15th captain to lead Sri Lanka in one dayers}

Thus the first game between India and Zimbabwe slated for 28.05.10 will witness two new skippers for one day games – Suresh Raina leading India and Eton Chigumbara leading Zimbabwe

JH Kallis was making his 300th appearance in one day games. He became the 15th cricketer to appear in 300 plus one day games. He is the second South African cricketer to appear in 300 plus one day games after SM Pollock who has played 303 one day games

HM Amla scored 92 in this game providing the 43rd occasion of a South African batsman scoring ninety in one day games. He became the third South African batsman to score ninety against West Indies. The others are – WJ Cronje {94 at Lahore on 03.11.97} and JH Kallis {95* at Centurion on 01.02.04}.

Lauderhill became the 60th ground to host a T20I and USA became the 14th country to host a T20I

KMDN Kulasekhara bowled a maiden over in this game providing the 81st occasion o of a bowler bowling one or more maiden overs in T20I.
